I wanted to use Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil 0-30w in my Attack for oil change @ 2200 miles. Yamaha dealer claimed that nothing works but Yamaha oil no exceptions. Dealer said Mobil 1 & Amsoil don't work & the Attack will not start @ -30 F below zero unless I use Yamaha oil. Now if I was using 5-30W he might have a point but to me new Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil 0-30w should exceed specs of Yamaha Blend. Anyone using new Mobil 1 fully synthetic 0-30w oil or other brands of oil than Yamaha? Any problems?

Using Castrol Syntec 0-30w and never had any problem down to -20*f. It sounds like a high pressure sales pitch. Yamaha oil is good but for something that revs like these motors, I prefer full synthetic.

Oil is a touchy subject. All I will say is not everyone uses Yamalube although I personally can't find anything wrong with it, except when you need it and can't find it.

If this were true the dealer would have to provide you oil, free of charge, for the life of the sled. This mainly becomes a point of discussion with warranty claims.

Since it's doubtful that you're going to get free oil, just be sure to use one that meets or exceeds the Yamaha specs.

The truth of the matter is lots of people/dealers will tell you that it voids your warranty or another oil and your sled will not run. it is not true, they will say that to try to get and keep you buying thier product. Amsoil actually has a pretty cool piece of paper that we like to hand to dealers that threaten customers like that and it usually sends them realing! lol...
have you looked into Amsoils product? take a look at it!http://www.ssoiltech.com/ ...left hand column about 1/4 way down amsoil vs. mobil 1 its a good read.

Dealers like that just piss me off........Instead of lying to customers to keep their business why don't they offer other products. Both dealers I frequent not only sell Yamaha oils but amsoil, golden spectro, Bell Ray, Royal Purple etc..........

That drives me crazy, they know they are lying to you and must think their customers are idiots. Oils and their use is a matter of law not a dealer or manufacturer call.

My dealor will talk like that sometimes and it just bugs me.

Any approved oil will work and do NOT VOID YOUR WARRENTY

Yamadoo

I've been running Amsoil oil and filter in my Attak with no starting issues. ( Other than the relay freezing up )
I ran the same oil and filter in my 06 as well with no issues. I've ridden in -40 before, it was cold as you know what and my sled still started in the morning.

Your dealer is a funny person with one heck of an imagination. lol

BTW: I use 0-40. I may try out the 30 next season??

Needless to say I was SHOCKED by the dealers reaction to using Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil 0-30w in the 150 with Yamaha oil filter. He said I would have to sign a release stating I was using an unapproved oil in my Attack & don't call him when the engine won't start. He was red faced & pissy so I walked out with sleds & trailer in tow. I don't mind using Yamaha oil but I have never been treated like that by any sled dealer over what oil I was thinking of using. He also told me to stay off TY as I would only stir up trouble about non problems with my sled. Anyone ever had reactions like that over oil choice from a Yamaha dealer? Seems crazy to me.

engine oil

I have been using amsoil 0-40 full synthetic with no issues. I also use fully synthetic chaincase oil with no problems. I have an '07 attak GT with 3200 miles on it. I have the Y.E.S. 3 year extended warranty and have been told by independent mechanics that as long as the oil ratings meet or exceed Yamaha specs. they cannot void the warranty. Is your dealer Heckels?

I don't want start anything but did the dealer say why it wouldn't start. My dealer told me to stay away from full synthetic because of the starter ring in the starter. The full synthetic causes the ring gear to not engage. I don't know why but my dealer said it came threw in a memo.
I have run Motul in my R1 race bike for 4 years and not one problem.

The part about not calling him back if the sled doesn't start sounds very childish. Is this guy a Yamaha dealer or a two year old. How do you talk to a customer like that. I would name the dealership so others can see what they are all about. Enjoy your Attack.

He said that he did not know why synthetic oils don't work in 150 he just said they don't work at 30 below zero F. He said the engine would not start. I told him Mobil 1 0-30W was new Mobil 1 synthetic oil & this is not 5-30W that may be out of spec. He said he has tried it & engines don't start at 30 below zero F unless it is Yamaha oil. I don't know anyone on TY that used Mobil 1 0-30W synthetic in Attack since it is a brand new product but he claims he tried it & no off brand oils work including Amsoil or Mobil 1. Only Yamaha oil works @ 30 below zero F. Like I said he was red faced & getting pissed so I left. I would like to go back with facts in hand regarding Mobil 1 0-30W synthetic & talk some sense into him but I don't know what I need to prove that M1 & other oils will work well.

Now that is funny! I run Amsoil and my motor cranks like it is 30 when it is -30. Sounds like he is trying to make a sale with his product. Maybe he should join the Amsoil team and sell it in his store. I know our local Ski-doo dealer sells it just so he will have your business whichever you decide to buy.

engine oil

Some automotive synthetic motor oils are not suitable for use in motorcyclcles due to the fact they contain friction modifiers. Friction modifiers can interfere with wet clutch performance on a bike. Maybe this is what the dealer is referring to. Amsoil does not contain friction modifiers so you can use it in a motorcycle. Sleds don't have a wet clutch so I don't know what the issue is. My sled has always started at -20 degrees.
