Not to start a 10k oil thread debate , I like Mobil 1 + found 8 qts for $42...
2 nytros to do.

Ok to use this blend??

Leafed thru some other oil threads, found some folks putting it in but results didn't surface (+ the 15 more pages of babble deterred me).

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I think the 0w30 is a little low on zinc and phosphorous athough it can be boosted with an additive. The Mobil One 0w40 has a higher concentration which makes it a better choice.

Here is some info:

Pulled out the dusty service manual, just had to read the black & white print.
Guess I'm not saving some bucks...

What difference will 5W30 be to 0W30? isn't 5W30 rated at temps well below what we normally ride at?

It would be for flow when cold. 5w may be a little too thick when cold. Yeah, anything "energy conserving" is to be feared. Use it in your car :)

Yep.
The '86 Olds Regency Brougham does need a change, wasn't planning on synthetic in the old girl but oh well.

I would run yamalube or a specific snowmobile oil. that mobil oil is automotive, designed to run at automotive rpm's typically around 5,000rpm or less not to mention the lack of zinc. whats your nytro spinning for rpm's?? double that!!!.. you can get a yamaha oil change kit with filter and new copper gaskets for $63 on amazon with free shipping..

Mobile-1 European blend 0w40 is an acceptable oil for these engines. There are a lot of sleds out there that have ran it for years with no issues.

Tony,
My Phazer had Mobil 1 in it, wound up tighter than a nytro.... Waded it & still drove 40 miles back to Redfield, sold to Canadian guy who was still running it as of last season.
I'd say it's "tested" ok for a sled :)

I can get the kit cheaper locally, didn't wanna drop the $$$ if I didn't have too.

Then why did you ask if you have "tested" it?? just to start another oil thread??

and we have screen names for a reason.

FYI, I was at a Kawasaki service school this tuesday, over an hour was spent on oil and why not to use automotive oil in motorcycles and power equipment..but hey what would a kawi technician know, you have tested it..smh

Because they want their techs to push the Kawi oil, parts and so on, just like GM would push their oil and parts. Specs of the 0w40 Mobil1 European formula has a higher than normal amount of zinc. Been using it for 14k km, still running strong and I'm not easy on it neither.

look, what temp does your car run at?? my truck was running 100deg today, what temp does your sled run at?? fawk, an aircooled kawi motor cylinder head temps run 437*..hello!!!! but you guys use what you want not what a MFG suggests.. It's always great when we get an engine in for warranty and we look at the crank bearings and a few other internal engine parts that are designed to show signs of excessive heat which created loss of lubrication because the cheap #*$&@ oil they put in is not made for what they were using it in..but hey, they saved $10 and get to buy a 3K motor now..

The question arose over using a certain blend, not brand.
I was looking at saving $50 knowing Mobil 1 has been a good choice for me.

2 Kawi bikes, 60k on ZRX/ 33k on the Ninja & have run Castrol oil in them for year. 5,000 +/- miles a Summer in heat with no worries.
Not a loyal specific brand to manufacturer believer.

Doing the oil change and using the recommended viscosity is the most important....
