I was just looking around for a new helmet and found a product
" CKX Modular " It had an integral sunvisor that I thought was
pretty handy.
Anyone have one or any thoughts about it?

That is the one thing I wish my helmet had. There are times I really want the tint or yellow inner shield.

Helmet looks nice...

I ordered one back in September, but am still waiting on it, still not in stock yet. I like the features especially for the price.

Hopefully it'll be better than the Gmax I had last year. If there's any wind blowing into this helmet, I'll return it as well.

I have ridden with several modulars over the past 3 yrs and found them all to be nice but each had problems. The old bombardier and the Polaris both break the clips that hold the breath mak in place, plus both allow breath and vapor to exit sideways in horizontal tubes that freeze shut if not cleaned out periodically during a long cold ride. They also release from the bottom at the chin and they have a tendancy to freeze up making helmet removal difficult. I have 2 AGV mods, they have bottom discharge from the fighter pilot style breath masks which I feel is better but will dump moisture on your jacket and give you a large frozen snot ball right on your zipper.

All 3 of these have a slight problem with newer sled setups. Lower windshields and higher rider position puts you out in the wind and all 3 leak. So bad that I have problems with contacts freezing in my eyes.

I just went to the powersports show and forked out $380 for the new BVS by Bombardier. I is kink of a modular but not. The breath mask is integral but hinged so it falls away from your face with a chin bar still in place. The shield is huge and there is about 30% more peripheral viewing area. It has a built in sun shield that is interchangeable and will stay down when the shield is up so you can clean it. There is a mounting point built in for a communicator or a flashlight mount and it has a built in red beacon on the back.

The breath mask is on a gimble and is threaded so it can be adjusted in and out against your face and has three levels of air flow for riding in different temps (exchangeable gaskets) your breath exits the front of the helmet with no tube to freeze and it is out away from your chest so hopefully there will be less frozen snot on the coat zipper.

The shield sits in a grooved rubber seal with a very positive (tight) closing pressure and you dont have the 2nd joint of the modular jaw to leak air. I have been driven with my head out a window at 80 and there is no leakage.

Friend of mine bought one a few months ago, but they are brand new this year so you likely won't find any feedback on them. Having said that, I liked the helmet, especially for the price. Much less than any of the ski-doo modulars available.

I think there are only limited sizes that have been manufactured so far, so if you have a larger head (XL or XXL) they aren't ready yet.

Yamadog, my brother has a BVS helmet and he gets drool/snot on the front of his coat...

Well then snot it is I'm not buying anymore helmets, could have paid for a turbo instead.

I think I'm going to give it a shot.
I've been using this ZEUS 508S and was looking to upgrade
to at least a 508WS when I ran into the CKX

Thanks for the help

I use the Zeus also , not a bad helmet for the price, I see on EBay you can buy the helmet with Electric shield for around $160 ...I have had mine for 4 years now and most of the guys I ride with have them too..I can't see my self buying a $350+ helmet ....But then again I really haven't had the chance to put many miles on one....

Nice Mod heres a couple more Mods from KBC helmets, solid colors as well as designs.

Has anyone tried the polaris one.I just bought one last week at the snow show?

Yeah I have one and 3 of my friends do. They are a great helmet for the price at the show. Just watch the mask snaps are plastic and get tough to attach especially with gloves and below 0 temps. Also the latch for the helmet to open has a tendency to freeze.

Pretty air tight and nice with the sun shield although its a bit tough to clean.

You get what you pay for in modular helmets so be careful.

Agreed

I shelled out the bucks and got a BV2S.
Hands down the best helmet I've ever had. We rode in -30 last year and I did not need a balaclava. No leaks and warm with no fogging. This is the only non electric visor helmet I have ever seen that you can sit still and not have to raise the visor to prevent fogging. The sun visor is nice. Its the only helmet I've seen that will allow you to wear glasses. Superwide viewing area really opens up your field of vision.
As an added bonus. If you use communicators this model will take the Collett DMS sno-fone which uses a mic in the breath mask. This works much better than the voice tube types used on other helmets. Its really like talking on the phone.
The only negatives I can think of are the fact that it is so warm and there are no vents. On real warm days it can be an issue but you can still just open the visor a crack for venting. Another issue is the moisture collectors used in the breath box. You need to carry a few with you in a plastic bag and switch them out a few times on a big ride. Not a big deal. They are cheap and you can dry them out at home then use them again. Lastly as with all modulars they are not as strong across the jaw area as a motocross type helmet and therefore can only be Dot certified.
