Like most heavier riders I found my RTX bottoming too easily. While my sled is in the shop I'm going to have the dealer move the C - clip to one of the two stiffer positions.
I'm now torn about 2nd versus 3rd clip position. I was planning on position 2, but Dealer says that the recent setup bulliten from Yamaha says 2nd clip works for riders up to 250 lbs. That would be with the cam adjuster turned up to # 6 or 7. 3rd clip position starts at 250 lbs at cam position 1 and goes up from there.
I'm 235 naked, which would put me at around 250 with gear. I was originally planning on the 2nd clip, but dealer feels 3rd might make more sense because I could start at cam #1 and still be able to adjust higher if needed.
I'm just fearful that clip 3 would raise the ride height too much and detract from handling. I told him I would get back to him. Can anyone currently running clip 2 or 3 please chime in with their results. I know the fat boy spring is also an option - but I want to try this first.
Thanks

I'm the same weight as you. I had my set at 7, orig position. Its not too bad. I'm moving mine to the 2nd position. I was only able to move my RA 4 clicks under that setting. This should give me more adjustability. When I spoke to the factory rep from Yamaha he said the 2nd position would be the best for the Apex and my weight.

I can only move my RA 4 clicks, in that range. If I move it softer it bottoms too easy. I'm hoping the 2nd position will help and give me more of a dampening range, and less kick back. Its not bad now, but it should be better. If you use the whole spring its gonna kick you back on the rebound. And the rep was about my size. He definately recommended the 2nd spot and said I dont need the heavier spring (he knew from first hand experience)
Just picked up my RTX today. I'll be moving to the 3rd clip and will let you know how it works. 275 NAKED! Fat Snow Men Last Longer!

I have mine set at clip position 2. I thought I was 235, but now I'm 250 (I should go back to the cigs!). Anyway, I was told that you should go to the big boy spring after 2 (stay away from 3). Can you say diet for my NY resolution!

Pete - I'm not sure how the clip works. My sleds at the dealer for something else so I'm having them adjust the clip while it's there.
Be sure to let us know how it works out with your new settings.

Ridge - have you ridden it at # 2? If so - how did it work for you, and did it feel much different than #1?

When you compress the spring you will see the clip. Use small screw driver to move to next level.
TOOK MY SHOCK OUT HAD IT PUT TOO THE NUMBER 2 CLIP HAVE'NT RODE IT YET. YAMANATOR SAID HE HAD HIS CLIP PUT IN 3 HOLE HAD SOMEONE RIDE HIS SLED AND SAID KINDA STIFF.

Did you change the clip on your RX - and if so did it work for you?
