monoshock "clip" position?

I have read that many of you have changed the clip position on your monoshocks from either 1,2,3 or a,b,c. Can you tell me how you accomplished this? did you turn it down, pound it down? thanks

had mine done at the dealer they they have a tool that holds the spring back while they reposition the clip.
