This is an age old topic, but times change...new products come out, vendors dissappear. What are your opinions on the best monoshock setup for me..and now a friend with a vector. I don't post much but we are two of the 'aliens' that dissappeared from the original TY new york ride from way back....lol...and yeah,...we still pound them pretty good, but our backs are tired of the hard bottoming. I had my shock revalve from Pioneer/Bruce Shrader a few years back...which worked pretty well, not perfect...but now needs more work. Who does the best job now...is it worth the added compression reservoir, the hygear setup, or is the mega float fox shock the best answer? The issue again is the blow through bottoming. Thank you! All opinions are welcome, except the ones to slow down on the big stuff....thats when we quit and be couch jockeys!!!

Thanks..but you have OCD....lol!!! I'll wait and see what others have...I asked last year about the track and put a ripsaw II based on everyone's opinions......a nice improvement from the rip I.

Try Travis at Barn of Parts. He offers a dual rate spring setup ,(much cheaper than most) and I believe he will make it to your liking. It can't hurt to talk to him and see what he thinks. I have a older Hygear dual rate setup with out the new fancy rate adjuster in the between the two springs. It still gives me a soft ride on the studder bumps and a much softer bottoming . It's very good! I would say if your pounding the bumps get your shock rebuilt every 1500 to 2000 miles and try the Dual rate spring.

What spring are you using and what is your weight geared up?
I come in around 200lb geared up and use a Big Boy 6.5 spring. Shock is rebuilt every year and has been revalved.
I can still bottom out but have to try hard to do it.
Depends what kind of ride you want but that Mega float will bottom out a lot if you set it up for everyday trail riding.

Thanks...That Travis has lots of stuff we break!!! I will have to give him a call, but I found some stuff...must be when we put the track on the clicker adjuster was off maybe 6 clicks....kids!!! LOL...I made a little tool and went to the last tight click and put the cable back in...full tight is hard...so the shock is still working ok...and then saw I had the spring on the second clip, full soft...I'm maybe 200 ready to ride...I think last hear I put it on clip 3 and it handled terrible but found the rubbers on the curve skis were soft so I shimmed the back to get less darting and went back to 30 psi on the floats. Putting the spring up to almost full tight, and with the clicker at 10 in, it is hard to bottom yet rebounds...That's where I think it was set before I messed it up...too many groomed trails last year, but yesterday afternoon, tug was, well, the old tug we came to love/hate...no snow so everyone was up there and a few sections were not monoshock friendly. With all that, I believe the dual rate is the answer...with a falling rate, one spring can give the softer ride and as it compresses, the harder one can firm up quicker, making it just a hot tub or chiropractor, instead of emergency back surgery!!I came from the old skidoos...prs...sc10, sc10 2,3,...lol whatever...just rehashing it all...it's either progressive rate or falling...can't fool physics...calibration and setup can make a wheelbarrow ride good......I have three other friends...two apex rtx's and the 08 vector, all with different setups....one rtx has the big boy...it's too stiff for me, but can still bottom...too bouncy, and doesn't handle like mine...my a arms are parallel with me sitting on the sled...maybe arms a hair up...like a v...very stable and flat...bumps are taken under gas...it's all are balancing act...

I see you have an o6 apex.
I have the same sled.
I have tried 2 different revalves, pioneer and hygear, it was better. Not great.
Next was the big boy spring. More improvment but still sucked in the big bumps.
Went to a megafloat. With hygear megafloat revalve and all addons.
To get a big improvment in the big bumps you have To add so much air pressure that you sacrifice with a stiff ride in the small bumps.
Went back to the stock shock and had a hygear dusl spring installed.
This is by far the best it has ridden. Takes both the big and small bumps better.
My recomendation is a revalve for your weight and riding style and a dual rate spring.
When you order your springs explain that you are aggressive and you dont want harsh bottoming.
I am sure either travis or hygear can get you what you need.

Logically that makes sense...it's the only real change to affect the falling rate, in a way, almost like the little rollers that shorten the pivot point on the springs on the twin shock suspension, firming it quicker...but even that is the same rate.
