I have a 2014 Viper XTX SE - Stock

What is the easiest/affordable way to get a little more top end? 5-10MPH would do a lot as far as keeping up with the attaks I ride with.

I have a full shop available and love the learning that comes from the adventure.

lol

What gears? And from what to what?

What type of change for what type of MPH gain?

See any of the many posts on the secondary binding preventing full shift out. Then buy a clutch kit or read the clutching on the cheap thread, Terry gets 109 mph in the 1/4 mile on a naturally aspirated XTX

5-10 mph more than what?

If you are topping out around 90 then it's pretty easily doable with just clutching, but if you have the clutching taken care of and already cross 100mph then realistically speaking it's turbo time.

TD-Max - It is currently stock, so the 5-10 more MPH is from stock.

Shagman - What clutching did you do?

OK I thought you had a figure in mind or a baseline established.

Follow what these guys say regarding clutching. Either DIY on the cheap or a full kit from a site sponsoring vendor like Ulmer.

The 8DN belt change technically should be accompanied by a slight machining mod to the secondary so that you retain the ability to adjust deflection.

Like asked above, what are your top speeds now? If you're in the 85mph range like many guys were than u have an issue in clutch setup, if you're in the 95-100mph range than it's a pretty good setup. In general, a clutch kit isn't going to gain you much top speed, it'll just get you there a lot quicker, also high top speeds aren't always what you want, if you're doing 2 mile radar runs than, well you shouldn't be running a stock viper lol, the quicker setups are what's going to get you out in front more so than the higher top speeds, which is why in the majority of drag racing in anything, the quickest machine to the other end has a slower top speed

Well I think many made clutching changes very quickly. I made no changes to mine other than shock and spring settings for almost 600 mi. What I remember is one day being happy as heck even seeing 95+mph then next day not seeing 90. The happy days were enough for me to forget the bad. Eventually I came to realize something was wrong with the sled and not just blame the inconsistency on conditions. Clutching will improve your sled everywhere. They missed the boat here. This sled should be a true 100mph sled in most conditions. Don't settle for less because I guarantee there will be times and places where if that magic number isn't achieved you won't be happy.

Great info guys. I am putting together a shopping list now.

The sled is stock and I don't have any miles on it yet. Last year I was still on my NytroXTX.

After all the reading I have been doing, it looks like a few of these changes are in order and some of them probably should have been done at the factory.

When the season starts we will hopefully get a few local rides in before the first trip, however some years we don't start the sleds the first time until we are on our yearly Christmas trip 4 hours away. I would like to have it as dialed in as possible before the season starts.

That's not what we are talking about when we talk about shimming. What I am saying is take a 2mm primary spring shim, take out the 6 bolts holding the clutch cover on, and put the shim between the primary spring and the clutch cover and put cover back on to increase spring pressure. On most sleds shimming the primary spring only raises the engagement speed but for reasons to lengthy to describe here it has a big positive effect on the Viper.

Guess I am gonna have to take some pics and put together a document...lol.
