Where you moving to in MT? I live in Billings. I would look at what it might cost to mod vs. selling it and buying a '05 mtn version. If you chose to mod I would step up to a 159 x 2 but go no smaller than 151 x 2 and gear down for the extra resistance. Clutching adjustments to be made as needed. Bar risers (my bars are about 6 inches higher and 4 inches forward from stock shorties) and longer cables along with weight reduction would also be good for better control while boondocking. Other than these things and the width of the ski stance not much difference between the two.

thanks for the input, were moving to the columbia falls area.im not sure what the riding opportunitys are in that area but im hoping its good.
Have you rode the mountains before? If not you are in for a treat. It's tough to beat.
Blgs is right I would HIGHLY recomend the 159. You may find that modding your shortie may be the cheaper route because there are changes (like the 159) that you would likely want to do to the '05 too.

This is my first post of many to come!... I live in Darby Mt. about 60 miles south of Missoula.. just purchased a 04 Mtn. with 84 miles on her, still under warranty.. can't tell you how it runs around here but according to many it should be fine for now... of course there is always an excuse or two for putting go fast stuff on it ! Use to club race my Yamaha R1 at WillowSprings Cali. race track, seems the street bike has the same problem as the RX1 the thing was a bear to handle but man it was fast.
My biggest problem now is getting a nice light weight trailer and all the gear to stay safe and warm.. any suggestions on where to look? Let me know if any of you want to together this winter I have lots of time to ride.
