Just went for my first ride on my XTX with 190 kit. No boost controller so I adjusted waste gate all the way out, still hit 4 lbs on a wide open 10 sec run. Temp was very cold, -25C. Conditions were ungrounded ditches some powder but not much. Cobra 1.6 track, stock gearing. Sled came with a mountain kit. Rode 43 miles around 40-50 mph, light first ride for testing and I'm down to 3/8 tank. I'm told the bottom half of the tank is a bit bigger but I was hoping to get 100 miles to a tank. GF's dad's Doo 1200 is down 1/8 of a tank only. Can I have a dealer reprogram the GEMS to trail? Also thinking I should get a digital boost and AFR guage to monitor. Running rich is better than lean but this is rediculous.
Thanks,
Ryan

GEMS are pretty archaic so stepping up to a PC would be a big improvement. AFR/ boost/oil gauges are a must in my book.

We dialed in a few EABC this last weekend with help from Ulmer, all of them were a little different as far as gearing and tracks and by the end of the ride, were all getting around 12 mpg.

I'm getting nowhere close to that. At 13 mpg I should get 120 miles to a tank. I'm getting barely 80. I'm thinking it's just running really rich due to the mountain program and I need to get an AFR gauge to start adjusting fuel consumption. I will be getting the EABC as soon as MPI has them back in stock.

Correct, you will need an AFR gauge to be able to tune that out.

Pretty poor test to! You need to ride keep track of gallons and figure it out exact. Mine varies with every fill up but in general I bank on 10mpg for my SC apex.

Thanks for the help guys. And yes I'll be doing more testing and actually track my mpg.

I've read in some places that digital gauges can be a bit laggy. In my opinion i would still go with them because you can actually read them while at WOT going a good 60-80mph figuring out what the eff you are pulling for boost and afr's. Install thread please on the afr gauge please if you install. Mine stopped working out of the blue and need to know where to troubleshoot.

Run a full tank of fuel and then report back what your fuel mileage is. You should get like 16mpg with a low boost turbo. Same as stock or slightly better.
My Nyto uses about 16 liters per 100kms (17.66 mpg) This is with driving pretty hard, my usual trail riding. Some cruising, lots of short WOT blasts, a few races in fields. My buddies with turbo vipers seem to get about the same.
Now, if youre screwing around off trail and holding the the thing WOT non stop, then you will definitely use mroe fuel than a stock machine.

Hi guys, thought I'd give an update. Filled up and even tried burping the tank like the Doos need and ended up getting another half liter or so in. Anyway, didn't burn a whole tank but about half and did a calculation and I'm getting 9.3 mpg. I'm sure once I get the AFR gauge installed it'll show I'm running quite rich and I'll adjust accordingly. Other thing going through my head is clutching which is probably set up for mountain as well but shouldn't affect fuel mileage too much. Thanks for all the help so far.

Is your kit the EABC low elevations kit?

No, it doesn't have the EABC but I have one on its way. Sled was used to ride the hills in Saskatchewan so I guess they figured the mountain kit would be better.

Awesome, thank you! I'm feeling overwhelmed trying to learn the GEMS system. I'm almost ready to just pay someone to set it up. But I'd like to try.Once u get that I have some settings for u to try.

Whatever came of this? I recently bought a 15 LTX SE with the MPI Trail Turbo kit (w/ EABC) and if I run it somewhat hard, I only get about 9.3-9.5mpg. VERY low compared to the same type of throttle input on my 06 Apex GT (around 14mpg). Any solutions? My A/F ratios seem to be right where MPI suggests across the board and I am seeing about 10.7:1 at WOT.
