Hi there. I am looking for a solution. I put a 180MPI turbo on my Viper. When I'm doing donuts in the meadows and if I fall off and the sled slightly tips on its side it leaks oil all over the clutching and belts. You can guess what that leads to

Once the oil is on my clutch/ belts it takes pretty much 3 hours to burn off. It squeaks. Squeals. Barely moves at first. This has happened 2 weeks in a row, since I've had the sled basically.

Basically I bought a mountain sled but in reality I can only use it as a trail sled as it can't be on its side. And by on its side, I mean barely on its side, kinda leaning on the powder.

I have talked to Yamaha and they have let me know MPI knows of this issue. Also the rollover valve was not recommended from Yamaha as they have a high failure rate. Yamaha has been very good about it. Thumbs up for that. I'm just trying to get some info to hopefully solve my issue so I can start fully enjoying my sled. Thanks for any advice.

oft roll over valve is wat your looking for bud! works like a gem believe me

Yes! That solves the problem and is the only way, like i said before you would have the same problem with the sled stock as i did. So i mounted a roll over kit. This is the weakness with a 4stroker... the AC m9000/m1100t have the same problem.... So the only way to solve the problem is like i told you before :-)

Four stroke solutions has a premium rollover valve that cures the problem

Thanks everybody. I did talk to Yamaha but they seem very adamant that the rollover valve won't work. They said they carried it for years but stopped carrying it because it would seize up and the sled wouldn't start. They said they were so common like this they just had to stop carrying them

Maybe. Were they dealing with a bad model. Or company. I guess I'm asking, what brand are you guys having so much success with that Yamaha, the company did not?

I had a similar problem this past week. I tipped the sled on the right side and all of the oil left the motor and the resivor tank was way over full so out in the middle of no where had to tip the sled on its side to dump oil out and then tear it apart to dump some oil back into the motor.!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes when stuck its easier to just roll the sled over and I cant do that bc I might have an hour worth of getting oil back where it belongs. Yamaha needs to get there crap together

You can roll the Viper just do not let it sit upside down. I have yet to lose any noticeable amount of oil in a quick roll. Buy FSS roll over kit, pull your tether to activate and roll over just to be sure.

Stock, MPI, And Mcxpress turbo vipers all have the same problem. Been to the mountains with mine and had to bring lots of oil along. Anytime the sled was tipped or had to be rolled over, oil would be flowing out the breather!! Very sick of this problem, can't believe Yamaha hasn't done anything about it, oil for the motor seems a tad important.... I have had roll over valves in the past for the nytros and yes they did have a tendancy to clog up with oil and not close when the tether was pulled. Had to remove it quite a few times in order to clean the junk out and get the the valve moving freely again. Im just saying someone has to come up with a better system than a roll over valve.

Well I have a full year b4 I go back so I guess I can worry about it this summer its bull crap that I need to buy something extra just so I don't get stranded. if Yamaha wants to get back in the mountain segment they need to have this stuff standard.

Oil line on the bottom of the tank came off some how dumped all the oil, coverd the engine and clutches cleaned that mess up. Installed new belt went out made it about 1 mile and belt started to slip, f#ck oil again this time out the vent from the oil separator. I have the mpi turbo so the vent line dumps in front of the engine. So pretty upset the engine clutches and new belt covered in oil again. Sled was in the heated shop for 30 hrs so the ball valve was not frozen. I blew in all the lines nothing is pluged, took the separator off all looks good ball is rattling around flip it upside down and it stops flow like its supposed to. Need too figure this out like ASAP have some rides planed for this week

Yep. That's my issue. As soon as clutches and belt is covered in oil I'm going no where. My friends 2001 skidoo can out climb the 2015 viper turbo at this point.

These things have been puking oil since 2003 and Yamaha still wants the aftermarket to fix the problem for them.

I see the advantage of a roll over valve, but mine is puking oil during side hills and like everyone says pretty much if its not level and running it's loosing oil out the breather hose. Will the roll over valve help while the machine is running?

Had 7k miles on my apex mtx with no oil isue ever, wtf is with this thing. I had my oil at the top of the full line, pulled some oil out to about the 1/3 mark. See if that helps there is plenty of oil as these tanks are larger than last years. Also going to extend the mpi vent hose so it goes all the way down to the belly pan as it only goes half way right now, get any oil down low away from the clutches

Tomkat700,
The ROV is primarily designed to keep oil from leaking out during a roll over event or laying it over on it's side to get unstuck, etc with the engine off. Additionally on Vipers the re-prime function aids in re-priming the oil pump as quickly as possible after the sled has been rolled or tipped over.

If it's burping oil out while it's running, I would check the oil level with it at operating temperature (cooling fan on). On Phazers we used run them towards the bottom of the acceptable range, so that they wouldn't burp oil out during deep high angle carving in powder!
