T&R Yamaha in East Jordan. They are only a Yamaha dealer and very good at it because they are not dealing with 2-4 other product lines. Great guys to deal with also and very experienced mechanic's that actually ride Yamaha! If your thinking about installing it yourself its really not that hard to install either. We did both installs in a weekend and it was a fun project. No issues, turn the key and ride!

Has anyone had to deal with using the aftermarket clutch kits on a warrantied machine?

I'm buying the ulmer kit for my 16 turbo when it comes in. I'm assuming the dealer will have to install it so it doesn't void any warranties.

My dealer installed aftermarket clutch parts and helix on mine when they did the turbo. So I can't see it being a problem unless your dealer is that picky?

We installed ours. I would suggest you look up clutching on the cheap on here..
Our 5 year warranty still in tact and I used it once already without any issues.

Will clutching on the cheap setup still work on a turbo Viper? I bought all the parts last year and wanted to run the Viper past breakin before installing the Clutch parts(so I was going to install everything this fall) but am now considering a turbo....... so do I have to buy a whole new setup for the turbo or can I use what I have?

I dont believe it will work as a bolt in and go. I am sure the weight you could get to work with some tuning and if you havent found the weights used to by them new is not all that CHEAP.

Ulmer kit. Still the answer. I know it's pricey. But I plan it will last the life of my sled

Yes, but requires more weight of course. MPI has brass rivets which are very heavy and will give enough weight. Shagman ran COTC last year for a while with his turbo, when he was out here it was a rocket once set up. He just had trouble getting enough weight with the stock rivets and I did not have any MPI brass rivets at the time. Or sell your COTC and buy vendors kit there are still plenty of people wanting the COTC.

Approximately how much weight are we talking?

I would guess 83 to 85 grams depending on your setup. 8fp comes right at 68 grams (67.8) and the MPI brass rivets are 7 grams each. So two brass rivets and one 3.6 per weight should be very close.

Going by Shagmans test, I expect to test this setup myself and have more accurate info by December.

I just got my new viper home , mpi turbo looks awesome!

I'm a little concernd about the ex burning the plastic. It gets really close.
Has anyone had any issue?

Mine are setup at 85g and are still a little light for longer runs. That is also with the B-S-B spring which is on the light side. I am currently running heavy hitters and like them better for off trail because there is better throttle response. Keep in mind I am running 7# boost most of the time. Horsepower will dictate the amount of weight you need. I will try them again now that I have an ignition module and a higher rev limiter. Also I will be running taller gearing this winter as I was stock last winter.

No the exhaust itself does not get that hot, if your talking about the muffler. And the weight in the clutches as you run more hp is the problem. I think at 12#'s I am somewhere around 98 grams and as the new motor broke in I started seeing 13#'s and banging off the rev limiter. The helix makes a big diff also the power comes on so fast in these things that the shift out on the primary gets ahead of the secondary and at launch I was getting a lot of rev limiter. It seems that a straight ramp works better and is more linear for the bigger hp machines.
