WOW I have read so much about the RTX and ride I just bought mine and I am afraid to ride it. Thats what I get for buying a sled with no snow to try it out. My 03 RX1 I spent so much time and money getting it to ride better. I went with a SC10III skid had the shocks rebuilt and revalved it was pretty good (not to mention straight rate front springs sway bar and links etc). So from my reading I think before I even try it I am going to get the shock rebuilt and revalved. I havent decided on who to use yet. The biggest reason is my weight I am sure the Yamaha shock setup isnt right for a 285 pound rider plus gear. I want to ge the best bang for my buck so to speak. Can you guys let me know what you thought of your rebuild and the differnce it made especially if you are close to my weight? I tried the mono and liked the ride with the fatboy spring after some reading and talking to the guys at the Yami dealer I was under the impression the RTX has a heavier suspension for bigger bumps and not that great inthe stutter bumps. What should I expect from stock and what did you notice after the shock rebuilds and lastly about how much am I looking at.

Whatever you decide to do, when reading through these posts, pay attention to what suspension they are speaking of (have experience with). There's a TON of confusion with regards to the Proactive CK suspension equipped Apex sleds.
Before spending any money on it, talk with Hygear or some others to see if they think the end result will be worth it to you. Most can get the shocks valved OK, but there are other problems to be discussed also. If suspension perfomance is something you demand, you may decide you should save your money for another skid swap.
The heavy duty rear springs available for this skid from Yammi are a joke. Theyre very expensive, and you actually LOOSE ride height with them installed. Don't let anyone talk you into going that route.....
The overload bumpers that fasten to the rails under the torsion springs will help, but result in huge rebound issues with regards to your shocks. If you decide to go that way, make sure your shock guy knows about it. Actually, you may want to try them before sending your shocks out. A bunch of us tried them last year (I'm 285 also), most ended up taking them off for this reason. The kick back will try and toss your butt over the bars occasionally....
If you need extra spring capacity, look into the 4 sided torsion spring adjusting cams called X-Clicks. The #4 position is an overload position that should have you covered easily. They go for about 40.00 from SLP, Shadetree, and High Perf. Engineering.

Thanks guys I read the Carver Hygear post but I was looking for more like the other post in here. People with specific info on my pro suspension and what they found worked the best. It sounds like at the very least a shock rebuild with the 4th position adjuster would be in the works. What else have you guys tried? Do you have both shocks rebuilt? What other adjustments have helped weight transfer and a middle of the road adjustment for a guy my weight? What did you put your settings on for groomed trails knowing you will run into some crap somewhere big bumps and stutters? I found I could set my other suspension for one or the other but I could never find a comfortable medium

Look at the FAQ section at the top of this section. Click on the post by Rex and it will tell you what you need to know. VERY informative and clear explanations of what does and doesn't work on your sled.

All around on mine I had to set the shock to very soft, and get rid of the anti bottom deals. This would at least absorb the stutter bumps but kill that suspension on the bigger ones.
I was going to go the revalve, restack, rebuild, route - but going different skid entirely. Hope to get to it one of these days and get pictures and ride reports. Easy swap, if I dont like it, can always go back.
