Does the update include where they secretly flash your ECU to run lower RPM...?

Its not supposed to include anything with the ECU. But who knows.

Maybe it's just hearsay, but I've heard rumors that every year Doo has been pulling back revs on the etec 800. Like tuned down to 7900rpm peak hp/tq for 2102 models.
I always loved my Doos and I'm sure I'll have another sooner or later but man, I really wish they'd get their act together and build a durable motor.

I've also been hearing about E-tech II (2nd gen.) coming down the pipe line...
Anyone else hear this?

Yeah, the etec II ...let me write the promo:
For an extra $500, the etecII will give you 5 more hp, reduced oil consumption and better milage;
Now the small print:
Less oil = more expensive oil,
5 hp comes at @ 8300 rpm which gets dialed down when BRP finally realize they can't escape physics .... that their piston velocities are so high they simply can't keep them together for very long.
You'll need the improved milage as you never get to the bottom of thier fuel tanks anyway unless you "burp" them...
I rode Ski-Doo's forever, and still love them, although not as much as Yami or AC anymore partly because of engine choices. It also seems like everyone's 800+ motors are consistently having durability issues. Know anyone with an 800 motor with 12,000 miles sans rebuild?
Maybe in the age of high hp, high milage, and low oil consumption 800 2smokes can't take the strain.
Until this changes, give me a 4 cycle 1049cc's @ 140hp (small tweaking) thankyou very much.....besides, someone has to tow!

The 2010.5 made more power than the 2011, thats pretty proven I think. Then in 2011 they had two different variations. Its my understanding that the Summit models had a few things different, so they were making more power. Now in 2012 there are more things different, a lot of things I think, and yes, the rpm for max hp/tq is lower for 2012 I believe.
So I guess they are pulling back the max RPM, but I don't think its as simple as that.
I'll be starting mine up here pretty soon. We'll see if it starts in 1 pull after being summarized all summer? Wanna take bets?

That old 500SS motor is about the best "modern" motor in the Doos. But it isn't very clean burning and only puts out about 110 HP if I remember right. Having had several rides and putting quite a few miles on the XP, I also wonder about the durability of the chassis. Not to say I know crap about engineering, because I don't, but it just feels too light and flimsy to hold up to abuse long term. Time will tell how all that holds up I guess.

Nah, I know she'll start right up... But so does my girl when I turn the key.

I'm glad this post has stayed friendly, if you have been on this site you know SleddingFarmer knows his sleds, has put a ton of money into his (old) nytro as have a lot of us. Yamaha has to step up with a 450-500 pound Nytro with issues fixed soon or many more will go to Doo or Cat. What has changed the market is warranties 3,4,5 year warranty on a 2 stroke?
Here is my real concern for the new sleds, my buddy has a 2010 Etec 600, 8000 miles rebuilt at 7800 miles ( ring pin, weird....) The suspension is shot, and you can see where the bean counters have been at these, no bushings, cheap castings, rivets where real hardware should be, 15 special tools to tear the machine apart. So I really don't mind a little extra weight if I actually have a sled to sell after 2 years.
In my area sleds are going high $$ and my nytro is worth more today than I paid 2 years ago used.. Amazing how snow can effect the brain!!!
Yes, and sledding farmer is personable as well as well informed. My Nytro is the first Yammie I've had since my 2000 SRX. In the interim, I had nothing but Doos. Admittedly, I'm a bigger guy (230 dressed to ride) and I ride fairly aggressively but also put some miles on in rough conditions. I've come to love the way the Nytro feels, and I know a lot of guys feel like weight is the enemy, but I don't have any trouble horsing my Nytro around. Plus, the way I have it set up, it is great in corners and even better in the bumps. The LE on my Curves solved the twitchiness coming off throttle and I was really happy with it at the end of last year. This fall, after reading lots of posts (many from the farmer himself!) I decided to get the the wallet out and do the shock revalve. I took the sled out to Bruce at Pioneer and after some discussion with him about my riding style, we decided to revalve both rear shocks and put a heavier front spring on the front skid shock. I was always pretty happy with the front end so I'm just having the fronts rebuilt. Hopefully I'll be even happier with the set up now, although I was pretty pleased last year anyway!
As for Doos, as I said, I'm sure there will be another in my barn one of these days soon. My Nytro will probably be moving along to a new owner next fall as I like to get something new every couple of years.

Keep us posted on how you think the shock revalve effects the sled. Personally I think thats the biggest problem with the nytro from the factory, and a lot of the handling/ski discussion wouldn't be around if the shocks had good shock valving right from the get go. But that was just my experience with my nytro.
