another season is coming and i was going thru the machine and noticed the idle wheels are not spinning free. i read on this site before that you could take the grease seal off the bearing and lube the bearings. well i did this on one wheel today and that seemed to work good, first i removed the seal then i sprayed a with pb free rust remover, then i used a blow gun and removed the pb lube along with some rust, and finally i injected the bearings with a arospace grease. total time for this process for one wheel 15 min. but it did seem to work pretty good, anyone have more info or better ideas feel free to writtte in. thanks

Your doing it right. As long as the bearings are not pitted and spin nice and smooth you should be ready to go.

Do the same thing on the Jackshaft and Driveshaft bearings. Just remove the Secondary Clutch and you have access to both of these bearings! They will last a long time if you do!

For a few bucks more you can put new bearings in and have Peace of mind!

What is the cost of the jackshaft and drive bearings? Only have 1500 miles on the sled, but it is a 2003 and never been touched.

Do as Bob Miller say's. Just clean them and regrease. I have been doing this for years and have as yet to have a bearing go bad and that is with 5000 to 10000 miles on my sleds.

You will get different opinions on this issue. In my opinion - your doing it correctly. I did the same thing, and it worked quite well. I also greased the jackshaft and axle bearings. I took pics of the process for doing the jackshaft and axle bearings, and have been meaning to post them for others when I have time.

Do you replace the bearings on your trailer or repack them? If they are sound, clean and repack, save the money for something else. My .02.

Re: Bearings
Be careful the 2003 did not have a locking collar on the jackshaft bearing they had a tendancy to move and tear apart real fast once this happens. Talk to your dealer he should be aware of the issue.

Is there a fix for this problem? Do I need to change it to a newer style bearing? Let me know as I am going to be tearing into the sled in the next couple of weeks and would like to have the parts ready to install.

I have repacked my jackshaft and driveshaft bearings every 2000 miles and at the end of the season. I now have 13000 miles on the 2003 rx1 the bearings feel like new . Bearings PROPERLY MAINTAINED should last indefinitely, moisture is the enemy for bearings. I am cheap and I would rather do preventive maintenance then replace worn out parts and be stranded on the trail, it only take minutes to pop the seal of and pack grease in them.
