My Ski-Doo Renegade hyfax came in on Friday, so I put them on Friday night along with some slightly larger 5.35" wheels I had kicking around from my asphalt racing days. I was told from an undisclosed person that may or may not work at Yamaha, (you can read between the lines here) that the Ski-doo hyfax was harder and had a higher melting point. I also read here at TY that the slightly larger wheels will help with slide wear and may also help with the Track/Engine drone. The doo slides don't fit tightly in a side to side fit but they work just fine so far. They are about 1mm wider than the rail so they move slightly side to side when installed but doesn't affect them, the rails or track. I'm sure over time the dirt and sand will get in and firm them up anyway to keep them from moving side to side. After all, it's only 1mm.
Well, we went out yesterday here in MN with what I would consider fair-poor conditions. Put on 115 miles on some decent trails and some others where it was blown clear and just horrible conditions with dirt and rocks showing. I never had to dip into the snow like I always had to before. I never once had the hyfax heat, stick or slow the machine down. Now I'm not sure if it was the larger wheels or the hyfax. I'm also running the track tighter now than I had been. I'm at the factory spec now. Running the track loose was killing my top end earlier to try to save the hyfax. The buildup of rubber on the tunnel protectors from the track lugs towards the front was unbelievable running the track loose. It's early yet but I think these slides from Ski-Doo may just do the trick. The first thing we noticed is the different feel of the material. It feels hard and slippery, Very dense and hard to grind when chamfering the front edge with a die grinder using a coarse aluma-hog for a bit. The Yamaha slides always get real beat up on the front edge from wear and hits. These Doo slides just have light scratching on them! They would certainly have been all beat up If I had used the Yamaha slides. Most impressed thus far! I can say my snowtrackers carbides took a beating more in the 115 miles yesterday then the 1000 miles I just did in the UP! Dang I wish we'd get some more snow!
As for the track/exhaust howl. It's still there and still just as annoying even with the larger wheels with more of a rubber cushion on them. Is it any better? Maybe, It's hard to say if there was any improvement. It sure didn't take it away. I think it's more of an engine/exhaust drone emitting from the tunnel acting as a big echo chamber in the tunnel than it is a track drone situation. So the wheels didn't seem to quench the drone but I do believe they will contribute nicely to lessen the hyfax wear and sticking along with the Doo hyfax.

ice ripper/ snowtrackers
Mike glad you had a great time in the up mich. didnt get to read your last post on the snowtrackers, are they worth buying. Also i looked at my attak a couple of days ago the 137 ice ripper xt is already cracking from the top of the lugs down to were the lug is molded into the track. Seems the worsewere the studs are molded into the rubber. I have at least 10/15 cracks in the lugs, i know rip saws are knowen for losing lugs i have had plenty my self. I have 1100 miles on the track so far this year it was put on this summer. I can belive it will last the rest of the year, hows yours holding up. These miles are hard miles maybe thats my problem. Your input is always great thanks Jeff

Jeff, I have over 2000 miles on my 137" 286 pitch Iceripper XT and the thing still looks new. The snowtrackers are great in the UP. Cant run any shims in the ski bumper though. The Snowtrackers don't like heel pressure! The Snowtrackers won't last riding around MN in our low snow and road crossings. They dart in low snow as the rectifier in the front doesn't dig in and do its job. I thought I had to go to the 13mm sway bar as it cornered so well in the UP. But after putting it in and riding around here yesterday that will be coming out and getting sold. I really didn't like the ride and it allowed the sled to push in the corners cause it couldn't transfer the weight to the outside ski. Another thing I noticed with the heavier sway bar is hitting bumps with one ski wanted to flip the sled. It was like riding an old narrow sled with it in there. The guys I ride with said they could see I was struggling with it too.

Mike, what Skidoo slider did your install? I see it's from a Skidoo Renegade.

Mike your experience with the larger sway bar is exactly what i was talking about a while back in another post and the reason i never went with it. I have noticed some tracking in very hard near ice condition's with the tracker's to but it is minimal. I thought also that they may wear faster in low snow cond's to as everything will but in my opinion they are still well worth the cost even if it takes an extra pair here and there. Slider I installed came from the 08 Doo Renegade. No need to even cut it, came just slightly shorter (maybe 1/4 inch or thereabouts) than the stock Yamaha I pulled off. If I was going to install a set on a 121" sled I'd think order a set for the Renegade, as it is a 137" long track and the short track is only a 120", I would think they could be too short, I don't know this for sure though.
kviper, Ya I really knew right away that the heavy sway bar wasn't going to work for me the very first off-camber and side slope I hit. We don't have the best conditions here to be wasting away the Snowtrackers. I'll save them for the good conditions.

I just installed a set of Skidoo sliders this evening and am going to see if they last longer than the Yammys. I'm not adding extra idler wheels yet, but may in the future.
Mike, how are yours fairing?

I run skidoo sliders on my ZX-2 and have to say I have no good luck with them. Actually from my experience they are crap! Just installed a new set last week and already need to change. Having a set come from AD boivin now.

I had a totally different experience with the ZX2 on my Vector. After 4500km last year, the sliders weren't even halfway worn. Was the last set the originals that came with the ZX2?

I’ve been through about 5 sets since new. First 2 were from ADBoivin and had premature wear since I was waiting for correct idler wheels to come in.
A few times I had to do allot of roads to get around and couldn’t take dip in the snow banks to give sliders a drink of snow due to rock hard icy banks. Once they start to melt, it doesn’t take long to wear down. The plastic suspensions hold heat more so then an aluminum rail skid, so I’m sure that doesn’t help.

How did these sliders work for KnappAttack?

mike, my guess is the larger wheels made the largest difference. I have always either run larger wheels or redone my mounts to lower the yamaha wheels and have gotten thousands of miles from my slides.
on your trackers bothering on icy conditions, you should keep a set of shimms with the sled so when you get to conditions that bother, you can shimm the front up like normal carbides to avoid the darting.
I may have to try a set of doo slides on the m10 this year, the size sounds like they fit metric m10 which have a wider t slot.
what amount of snow do you think is where they stop working??

Mike,
How do you like that track? Can you give some info on it? 137"? Are you on an Attak? 286 Pitch?
I ride out of Trout Lake in the U.P. and I am looking for a good track that will run well on the trails there and still be better than the stock track on my 07 Attak in the deep snow.

Well, 2 weeks later and my sliders in the front of the suspension are down to the line already! Looks like a set of aftermarket wheels are in order.

There fairing damn well as the sled isn't getting ridden. I bought a new Turbo Z1 and have been concentrating my efforts there, but what I have seen is the Ski-Doo slides are far better than the Yamahas. Nothing is indestructible but it seems like the Doo slides are 2-3 times better than the originals.
As for the Iceripper XT sharp stud track, If I switch tracks on the Cat, this is what I'm going to put on. And I'm fairly sure I'll have one on by next winter! I have a 137", 2.86" pitch on the Attak, yes. They are now made in the 2.52 pitch also.
As for the Snowtrackers, they need some snow to work, rock hard trails or ice and its no different than a single carbide. If h trails chewed up some, soft or has any snow on it they work awesome. I'd say 95% of the time this is the conditions you'll run in. I don't think theres anything better if you want no darting and no pushing. Second to them would be the Slim Jims. They don't dart whatsoever, but will push in the corners.
