Me, 6 ft, 265 lbs with gear.
We just got 15 inches of fresh wet snow and I just got my motor in. Last night I did 100 miles on semi unbroke trails. Our trails go from hard twisty tight corners in the woods to wide fast fields that you can run as fast as you want for 3-5 miles at a rip for over 50 miles.
I like the proformance of that lil high reving 500, plenty of power for me, as I am in it for comfort and fun, not speed (80 was as fast as I got on gps on the rode @ 12k plus rpms). I was really impressed that when it did hook up, which was rare, I could ride a wheely nicely, even at 20 mph just grab a grip and hold on. The suspension was awesome, I hit many 6-10 ft banks and while in the air the sled seems to fly nice with throttle input. Overall, and extremly fun sled for me.
Now for the cons.....From reading hundreds of posts on here I knew what to look for in some of the handling charactoristics. That engine braking, it has to go, its damn near dangerous. It almost put me over the bars twice. If I want to brake, I will use the brakes. Also the ebs kills fuel mileage, coasting without throttle get you more miles per gallon, thats just a fact.
That being said, I want the best clutch kit to reduce the braking.
The track, as it has been said many times on here is worthless. Also a wheel kit is an absolute, the hifax have 900 miles on em and are about wore through. All my othe Yamis have duel wheels. I even have some off a 97 skid that will work fine. Not sure why the factory did not put wheels on, our 88 Eciter even has em.
The steering is absolutly the worst I have ever experienced. I rode this sled shortly after we got, we had 3 inchs of frozen snow. It steered sweet, ski lift......sure, tippsy.....yes, much needed rider input....thats cool with me, I ride that way.
But, get this thing in 12-18 inches of fresh wet snow.....it is absolutly dangerous!! I almost hit many trees even went off trail a few times to save it. It pushes snow like a damn snow plow. 5 mph-45 mph, didnt matter it pushed every corner. I actually for the first time in a long time let other sleds lead so I atleast had tracks to follow in the fresh snow. I wont let other friends even ride this thing until the steering is fixed, its embarrassing, as they know I AM Totally Yamaha, dirt bikes, sleds, quads, motorcycles.
I will order some Simmons Gen 2's and move the limiter strap, may even dump the sway bar. I love this site, and I love the sled, I will follow the best advice to get this thing into the sled I know it can be. Well enough ranting, Im off to a wedding.

Agreed about the engine braking, a clutch kit will help tons. I not have imo the best amount of engine braking with ulmers kit. 12k rpm from what i read here is too high i think you want more around 11,400 but conditions can mess with rpm's.
I have powder hound skis and the turning in much improved in deep snow along with on the trail. I run 6 in sharpers with the limiter strap pulled in one hole tighter and il lift the ski way before i push.

I here ya, but this sled was more intended for the wife and kids...I wanted a Nytro. I would never put my wife or kids on it as is right now. It needs a lot of tuning and a 1.5 track.
I did drive it about 40 miles today, the trails are all groomed...ride was much better then yesturday, slight push, but hellacious ski darting. I'm not unhappy with the sled, I know I can tune it all to my liking, just suprised it kinda sucks balls from the factory on steering.

you have to make sure your front shocks are pretty stiff to carry the weight of the motor and the rider. i had luck pulling the limiter in one hole and putting some good preload on the center shock. an ulmer clutch kit will reduce the engine braking, and yes the stock track is junk - i only rode a total of 175 miles on both of my phazers on the stock track combined and didn't care for it. Simmons skis will improve the handling, but like i said if you try and run soft up front without preloading the center shock, it is a handful. That motor was a strong one, more so than my 09 - fuel mileage if you are riding it is somewhere between 15 and 17 for trail riding.

Motor runs great. I played around with front shcks, but to be honest I dont witch way to turn what on the GYTRs.

WoolyVipers got it. Great base line susp set up. I did it yesterday and WOW. Huge difference, For me.
1/4" of threads showing on the bottom of the front shocks. Still need to tweek comp/rebound settings but I was at 7 clicks out from full hard.
Limitier in hold #2
Center shock 3 turns tighter on the adjuster from feeling a loose spring. Rebound at 7 clicks out from hard.
No powder as of yet but i've noticed reading through here that hard pack trail is a TOTALLY difference set up from playing in powder.
