Just got back from a 3 days trip on my sled. This is the first time driving this sled. First of all Yamaha did a great job with this sled. For the past three days all I did way back country riding, so a lot of on and off throttle use. I checked my clutch a few times and they were cold with zero belt dust. I am using the ultrimax belts xs825, I always use a ultrimax belts on all my sleds and never had a issue. I was riding with some new 18 freerides, yes they do handle the deep snow a little better due to its lower weight and maybe driver experience but I'm learning and I'm ok with that. Oh I burned less gas then they did.
This sled is stock besides from a proclimb rear bumper, linqs 14.5 liter rear gas caddy, 8.5 cat riser and a upgraded 2.5 challenge extreme track.
However I did noticed a few things about this sled, first the qs3's. I could of bottomed the stocks on either 1 or 2 setting at will, surprised in that. This has very little transfer, I got my limiter strap still at the factory location, so will have to adjust that to all the way out. But in deep snow this sled don't turn for #*$&@, so adjusting the limiter it may make it worst
This sled sometimes take a few seconds to come down the ideal speed when coming to a stop all most like the throttle sticks a little. But this does not happen all the time. The engine will stay between 22-2600 rpm for a few and then drop to 1500. Is this normal?
The last thing and most concerning is, I tripped the sled over on its throttle side for 3-4 seconds before I could get to the kill switch, sled was still running. Shut the engine off put the sled back up right started back up, did noticed the oil light stay on for a few seconds but it did go out and the sled ran like it always did. After about 30km of slow running we got to a place where I could drive this thing hard. But I started throwing a lot of black smoke when pinned through the muffer and the guys behind me could smell a burning oil smell. What could of caused this? If the sled is still running on its side do it through oil back into its intake and cause the engine to smoke because it's burning the oil?

If the engine is still running when tipped the valve stays open and the oil will go through the valve and end up in the intake. The only time the valve will close is when the engine shuts off. I'm sure you didn't lose much oil but I would suggest to carry a qrt of oil in your bag for just this situation. You will see many have removed this valve because in reality it's a crappy valve and it can freeze closed at morning start up and blow the seal in the oil tank. It's kind of a pick your poison type thing but since you do a lot of off trail riding you may be stuck with this valve.

Yeah going to be keeping the stock roll over valve, however going to be picking up a oft pro tether.
So your saying that the sled will smoke if oil passes by the roll over valve? Yes you are right I checked my oil level and it was still showing a good level

Yes the oil that goes through the valve ends up in your intake so it could end up smoking if it gets into the engine. You then have the pleasure of smelling burning oil just like the 2 stroke guys. You should open up your air box and clean the filter and oil that may be in there also.Yeah going to be keeping the stock roll over valve, however going to be picking up a oft pro tether.
