DaveyBoy said:I would like to see a pic of the sled from the seat forward please.I really like this set up hmmm Oh and does the exhaust go into a muffler or exhaust system??
You can see by this photo that the exhaust comes right off the rear of the turbo on the wastegate housing. It curls back and dumps right into the tunnel in front of the " bulkhead " which Yamaha calls the deltabox. It is a short pipe about 12" long. taking out the stock exhaust saved about 28 lbs. It is fairly load in the shop against the cement floor, but once in the snow is fairly quiet. The turbo itself acts like a muffler too.

The sound is super sweet, but your right for trail riding, it might get a little loud. In the powder, mostly all you can hear is the turbo and blow-off valve purging. God, I love the sound of that turbo.
Maiden voyage today, and it pulled so hard, even at 12 lbs boost, ( I had it dialed right down... on pump fuel ) It seemed unstoppable. I was climbing some gnarly stuff, and even when it got squirrely the huge power always got me out of trouble. Didn't get much filming done, the weather wasn't cooperating. But got a good test ride in. Alpine had the fuel control box dialed almost bang on. It was running a little on the rich side, but not too bad. The air/fuel meter was on the safe side.
Daveyboy. I'm sure even though we run them into the tunnel, you could have a pipe bent, and run it under the tunnel to a muffler of some sort.

I was thinking of that too shouldnt be a big deal I guess and i wouldnt run a complete exhaust i dont think maybe some turn downs at tunnell where pipes went into muffler? Is that a shield u bought or did u modify it I like the black and chrome fade

If you were to get the powderlites turbo order an Excell ehuast to go with it. Dave has an extention to run though the tunnel and into the stock muffler. Replace with an Excell muffler or gut your stock one and carry on. Quite and trail friendly!

Sounds like a good mod to keep her trail friendly. Up in the mountains, we enjoy the light weight pipe, dumps right into the tunnel. The deep powder snow muffles your sled quite nicely, and all you can hear is the sweet sound of your turbo spooling up !

What's the difference between the 28 rs and the 2871 as it pertains to this motor? why did you go with the 2871?

The chioce was actually made by my dealer. They had actually run out of 28rs turbos so I got the next size up... I think the fan design would be different, and the overall size is a bit bigger. It still spools up as fast as the rs from what i'm told. I don't exactly know what the real differences are, but Dean at Alpine said " trust me, you'll like it " with a big grin on his face. So, I interpreted that to be a good thing..

From the outside, the 28RS and the 2871 look identical, unless you can see in the compressor inlet. The 28RS and the 2871 use the same turbine wheel and can use either a .64 or .86 A/R housing. Most sledders are using a .64. The compressor wheel on the 28RS is 60mm OD and the 2871 has a 71mm OD. The compressor housing castings are the same but the inside of the 2871 is machined larger for the larger compressor wheel. The CHRA (center housing rotating assembly) is essencially the same but the compressor side is again machined larger for the compressor wheel. With our carbs, the 2871 spools not to bad. With the injection, I would think it should be even better.
Trust Dean, You WILL like it.

Looks nice guys but . Looking at the down pipe does the compressor surge due to the wastgate lack of flow due to DP design?
