Need a little more speed and a little less rpm.

I purchased a 07 apex mtx at the end of the season last year and absolutely loved it. I'm not a mountain rider but the price was right so I bought it. I'm quite pleased with the way this sled handles for being a heavy tank and a long track so no issues there lol.

My Question lies with the top speed and rpm. I took it on a good 250 miles ride so there was lots of top end pulls. I seemed to top out at 95-98 mph reving at 10,800-11,200 rpm. I did not hit the rev limiter but know that it shouldn't be that high consistently.

The sled is stock with 20/40 gears and a 162 x 2.25 mavrick track. I have added scratchers and plan on cutting the track down to 1.75"

I would like to achieve a top speed of around 105 to 108 with the rev at about 10,600 to 10,800.

I was going to try a 22/40 and 70 link gear setup changing from 2.0 ratio to a 1.82 ratio. I would like to get some input on if i'm heading in the right direction to achieve what i want. I'm also wondering if i should make some primary clutch weight adjustments. Thanks guys!

Your rpm is pretty much bang on! If you want more mph then your on the right track, change your gearing and see where you speed and rpm are. Apex rpm should be around 11100 and this gearing should give you 106mph with 9 tooth drivers according to Ulmer's charts. If you are running 8 tooth drivers it will be less.
