Friend of mine just got his first snowmobile 05 vector and took him out Friday and for some reason it tops out at 65. Runs great only has 3000 miles is this normal or what should I look for? Debating on buying the ulmer clutch kit for it but seems like the sled should perform better in stock form then it does.

I had a sled that was slow off the start and could not get up to speed and it was the secondary clutch had issues. Id put it up on a stand and rev it up and ensure the clutching looks correct.

Look at the Home page and find the Technical pages on the left side menu. This will give you the basic Specs. Make sure the Air box is on correctly with no leaks . My daughters sled had the Air box knocked loose when she went off trail with it and it would run perfect until about 50 to 60mph The fall on it's face . After I hooked it back correctly it ran fine .. Check clutches for broken springs . If the tech gets up to 7500 or above that would be the first place I would look is the clutches .

clutches should be cleaned as there could be corrosion that is robbing power. without the springs in them they should slide/piviot free with no stiff ness or binding. seen belt dust do this to a clutch as well.

carbs or clutches dirty . My 05 Vector in perfect conditions will put the speedo on 112 MPH which is probably high 90's in reality. That's pretty much bone stock just afew tweaks. You've got problems if it wont go over 65. I wouldn't be buying a clutch kit id be working on figuring out whats wrong with it.

ohh ya mine still do that at 9000 miles so you should have no power issues motor wise at 3000 just broken in. Stock my 16 Viper had less top end than the old vector
Does the track turn freely? Check the bearings. Like others said carbs gummed up or check the primary spring to see if it broke.if the clutches are dirty could be sticky weights or stick it rollers.Witn that amount of miles the clutch bushings should be fine.

Ok guys I finally got a chance to pull clutches and inspect along with bearings etc everything checked out but what I did come across was carburetor issue I think. What’s happening is the vacuume operated slides are not opening up hence not getting any kind of power has anyone ran into this befor? Thinking the diaphragms are bad seeing as I sprayed for a leak on all the hoses etc
