oops...buddah...my mistake...I meant East. We did head west as well, but Marquette was this but Big Bay was decent. All in all it was good riding ans I am sure it's getting better by the day!!

Was thinking about heading up tomorrow for the day. Is it worth it? I heard it had gotten progressively better since last weekend with a couple inches of new snow. All the reports I see on trailconditions.com though, are from resort owners. Anyone know anything about this area?

i think im waiting 1 more week to do my dream back-pac accross the u.p. Im about ready to

Just got back from three days in Houghton. Trails were great. Rode to Copper Harbor,then to Gay and back to Houghton. Then went south the next day and rode the twin lakes area. This was during the week so I am sure the trails will be beat down by the weekend as we passed a LOT of sled on the way home. Friday morning when we left there was about 4 inches of fresh stuff on the sleds from the night before. This could have only made things better.

i am at the soo as i write and i have seen the trails alot worse. actually we rode south to cederville and over to st ignace and back up to trout lake and back over to the soo and the worse spot was the cederville swamp. the rest was flat as a pancake. and it is snowing here now. good luck.

I want to thank everybody for the great response.Im sort of dissapointed i didnt come up this week but looking at the long range forcast i think it will be just as good but not better next week.Thanx again

Real Mich UP Trail Report
Just rode from Paradise to Big Bay and back (532 miles round trip) on Friday and Saturday.
Only a few miles were well groomed (Markquette Casino east to Trail #7. )However, from Casino to Markquette your ridding on cinders at 35 MPH. Yep, they really put in the Speed Limit and police to enforce it there. (Many times, you are also hitting cinders on the well groomed part of the trail.) On the Trail into Munising (317 or possibly 319?) down the hills and through town was SNIRT all the way back to Trail 8, SouthEast of town.
From Marquette to Big Bay was also a mess. However, there was lots of snow and it was a blast crossing over the two mountains in that rough stuff and tight trails. From the fresh trailside tree cutting going only going part way through, it looks like they have not had a grommer fully through that trail this year. Yep it was that bad. But,... boy was it fun & I got the aches to prove it.
Trail 8 from Munising to Gwinn was fair. The Trail from Guinn to Markquette was good. However, there is a change at the intersection of Trail 8 and 17.
Around Munising, it is lots of SNIRT especially out North and East of Shingleton. Around Grand Marais Trail 89 was almost out of snow, but it was well groomed. Trail 8 in that area was rough with dozens of sleds.
Grand Marais to Pine Stump was not too bad, if you can live with as my wife says "Death, Destruction and Mayham lurking around every corner." What a bunch of racer want-a-bes. out there several miles ahead of their packs with Kids and Mom in tow cutting the blind spots on the the wrong side of the trail. Then there was the gas lines at Pine Stump and Rainbow.
Yep, the jumps on Trail 8 from Pine Stump to Rainbow's were still just as good as normal. Only with the kids, Moms and Police watching, it's just did not seem as much fun. Two Police Officers on sleds out there. (Also, one between Marquette and Quinn and two between Marquette and the Casino. )
Trail 8 from Grand Marais to Paradise has lots of snow, but was bumpy and had lots of sleds. The trail into Paradise from the south is closed. Something about the swamp not being froze over and sleds that can't swim. They did open the trail back up from town to the south trail?? I guess everyone got tired of the 7 mile detour. Some peole were ridding from the River along the Lake into Paradise. Many were going it along the road in SNIRT, for miles.
It did snow a bit on Saturday. It rained a bit twice on Friday. When I got back, there was about 1" on snow and ice was on the truck hood.
From the Road on my way home, it looked like Trout Lake was SNIRT. They did get a bunch of snow in Caddilac, Grayling and Gaylod. Lots of people riding around there. We have Fresh 8" in Baldwin, & I have to go. Time to ride.

Just returned from riding in Hurley, WI and into the Western UP up to Silver city and back. There was 3" packed base with icy corners on the trails in most spots in WI. The trails heading into MI from hurley got progressively better. We stopped at Silver City on Thurs. night as it was snowing all day up there and headed back to Hurley. Snow was probably 6 inches of new stuff and probably 10-12 inches on #11 trail back toward Hurley from Silver City. Best snow we'd ridden in on the trip, but we never went further into MI/UP than Silver City. We got back to SW Minn. last night and the trails were packed at noon on Sat. before we left.
