Need help, was going to dealer to buy 05 Rev Summit today and got sidetracked. Found new 03 RX1 MTN at VERY good price. Never ridden Yamaha other than my 00 MTN Max - excellent sled. Sold my 99 Summit X and now replacing, would love 4-stroke just worried about change and weight! Help me, should I buy the Yamaha?

If it is stock you will have to do some little mods to make it into a true mountain machine. The good thing about a stock one is that you can usually find a good deal on them ;)!

My neighbor goes out west to mountain ride a few times a season. He has a Summit. He rode my RX on the trails and loved it. Said he would get an RX Mountain. Next trip out west, found out the guys didn't like them, too heavy, and thats why they were going cheap. Rental places had them but their other rental sleds would rent out first. Not sure other than maybe you should try one first.

i thought it was heavy, but then i learned how to ride it. i can go anywhere that my friends go and thats all i care about

Pig, pig, pig!!!!!!!

It's going to cost you 1-5 grand to get it so you like it.

After that, it will last you for a loonngg time.

If you get a good deal I think it worth it. Put what you save into a few mods. Like SOCORX1 put it as long as you keep up with your buds. I ride with 700 and 800 RMK's. Last year before any mods I could keep up. This year usually climbing higher. Once you learn to ride it you will love it. Everyone is critical in the fact that you have to dump a pile of cash to lighten it up. Its that or dump money into a new engine for your 2 smoke. I was skeptical last year before buying. Everyone told me 2 stay away from the 1 tonne, but now with the mods making it ito a 1/2 tonne those same critics are starting to change their minds as I have been towing a few of them out as of late. It never hurts to try one though prior to buying. ;)!

If you are a seasoned rider you won't have a problem! I had trouble my first year but now I go wherever I want! My last trip out I came upon a meadow, where I found two rmk's and a summit stuck as hell, so I went over and helped and soon relized why they were stuck, they couldn't ride for #*$&@. I'll put it this way I was the biggest critic of this sled 2 years ago now I love it and it's bone stock I ONLY GET STUCK WHEN I SCREW UP. I have become absolutely certain that 90 pecent of a sleds performance is rider ability, and that has come from self evalution. A perfect example is the skis, I know that the narrow ski dives but on occasion I get lazy and it dives and I don't react in time and I get stuck. That has happened once this year and I have put on 700 miles of mountain and swamp riding across country breaking trail! And have had no breakdowns. My sled is a 03 mountain so I think a good price on a 05 would be awesome! Just my 2 cents

You really have to lighten it up to be comparable in the mountains. The good news is that there are getting to be good deals on lightweight parts, as guys are now selling some used. If you can get it for 2K less than a summit, you can dump 2k into parts, knock off 60lbs, and have an engine that'll last more than 3000 miles, and won't leave you stranded.

If you are paying over $7,000 for it, pass. You can pick up a good 2003 RX1 with low miles for under $5000 if you shop out west.
I'm 190lbs, 58 years old and ride with guys 15 years my junior, on all kinds of sleds. We do some pretty extreme off trail riding and I keep up and don't dig anymore than them. The RX1 is harder to dig out when it is stuck I will admit. Don't let the weight scare you, buy cheap and lighten later for a few bucks. Ride it for 10 years before a motor rebuild is needed. Spend $10-$15-$20 a day less on oil and gas then your freinds and carry a tow strap to get them home, because your on the most reliable sled built.

I have a mint condition 03 mt with bender turbo II and all the goodies that I am going to sell for $10,700. I can send pics. Needs nothing but a strong grip to ride it.
