If you're getting Code 12 that's pretty much a done deal, time to replace the stator. With an 06 apex, I'd say you're right in line with most people. I replaced mine last year. It'll never start with starting fluid. I believe Code 12 shuts down ignition and fuel delivery.

Stator for sure, just changed mine, had been acting up for a few weeks, not starting right away etc. It will be the crank sensor most likely but you have to replace the whole unit. Lots of used ones around for $100 bucks. Only took two hours to change, easy job!

My Yamaha manual says that cold 12 is a crankshaft positioning sensor. Why are you people saying it's the stater
Well we are saying it is the stator because the cranksaft sensor and stator are together. If you need to purchase through your dealer they are wired together and can not get separetly. Their are aftermarket sensors available if you are comfortable cutting and splicing the wires.
