2013 nytro, 2000 km on machine last week i got stranded 60 miles in the woods sled would not engage the starter, took starter of once home starter was fryed inside melted alot, so put on new starter and a new solinoid/ relay started up fine tryed it 5-6 times left for a big ride and 80 miles into the ride same issue no start towed home agian,, just hit my last nerve, anyone out there care to throw some input into this please

Did you try to jump the starter relay to eliminate other issues? You should also check the battery to eliminate it as the problem and make sure the stator didn't stop charging during your ride. If it is the starter again you may want to check the starter clutch. It's a one way bearing behind the stator cover and you need to remove the fly wheel to inspect it. The clutch may be locking up so it never disengages the starter motor and runs it at the same rpms as the engine. This will cause the starter motor to over heat and fail in a short period of time.

thanks for the reply ya we crossed over the solinoid on both starters and solenoids how would a bad battery cause starter failure just woundering i did have to boost her that morning im thinking the one way bearing im goin to pull it all out today i have to find a issue because i cant handle this break down stuff way in the country thanks

I'm not saying the battery caused a starter failure. I'm saying before assuming it's the starter again make sure you check the battery to eliminate it as the problem. There's also the possibility the stator failed and stopped charging the battery during the ride. Let us know what you find.

just pulled the startor its toast again also pulled the 2 way clutch bearing it seems its working but there is a blue and black ring around the big gear and also just outside the 2 way bearing so something got hot

the bearing may be dragging just enough to spin the starter with the engine.

i got another motor from a guy 2008-2009 pulled the mag and the clutch out of it looks like the mag is bigger on mine and there are blue and black marks on this one as well but only on the outside

is it possible heat did this to 2 starters , i had a thought with the supercharger creating more heat and this year i put on the trail tank is it possible its making the starter that hot that its melting the opoxy that hold the magnetics in place ,2 starters melted the same

It almost sounds like your starter is not disengaging and like Grizz said above its turning the starter and overheating it. Have you replaced the starter solenoid it also could be causing the starter to not disengage and ruin it. There use to be a kit a guy sold with a red light to warn you of this so you wouldn't ruin your starter. Let us know what you find and if there is a solution. Good luck!!

Pete

I'd put a new starter clutch in it. I don't believe your modifications are causing the starter to fail.

yes new solinoid, i have a brand new starter ready agian im just trying to pin point a issues before i try it agian , if u think its the starter clutch then ill air freight one in real fast thanks

As a good rule, I listen every time I release the key for the starter to spin down. No real need for a indicating light to tell you the starter is disengaged. All my friends run yamahas too and do the same. 15,000 miles on my 09 nytro with original starter.
