Guys new too but love the site. I have an 07 VK Professional we use to pull a cross country ski trail groomer and it works amazingly. We do allot of grooming at night and no light to the rear has been a problem. So I built and installed a small looping light bar attached to each side of the rear rack just behind the passenger seat back and attatched a pair of LED work lights. They each draw less than an AMP and my plan was to tie into that existing rear circuit for the rear hand warmers, already there, switched, factory, wiring and this thing never has two riders. Well I got this all constructed and I have no power back there, none. I checked maybe it is AC/ nope. Machine on, machine off, front warmers turned up / front warmers turned down, nothing. I have a feed for each side coming out of that rocker sw3itch mounted right side tunnel, a pair of feeds for each side, black wire and a green and yellow wire. My guess is/ was black is ground yellow is high and green is low or vice versa, but I have nothing. I checked in the cheesey little fuse box just above the gear box everything there is good. I then assumed these warmers may have a diode that detectes load or they required to run in series to operate. Hooked them back up, nothing ice cold.. So I have no power. Now I could string wires forward to where I have juice but do not want to. We have several operators and if I give them the option to leave these on and kill the battery they will 3 times a week. These LED lights have to use less juice than the warmers (i never even got them hooked up pulled the seat and started testing for power and had none), I must have a blown fuse somewhere right, or could that two position rocker switch have checked out? Getting to thte back of that looks like a big chore... Any guidance would be great..

why don't you put a led bulb in the rear tail lamp and steal the power from there. should have no problems that way and as a bounus they will not light up unless the machine is running.

Rear hand warmer
We have the issue with rear hand warmers. Dealer indicates they only cut in above 3500- 4000 rpm and then they take a while to heat up. We are thinking about running a line from the tail light to get direct power ( tail light always on.

Interesting note on the range before the passenger handwarmers cut-in. I was not aware of that.
I think with the intro of the new Polaris WT which has a switched worklight built into the rear tail lamp, you are going to see more issuings of such a set up direct from the factory. It is very practical when you are trying to find a towpin or do some other work behind your sled in the dark. Considering that it gets dark at 1530hrs these days where I am, I'll take every light I can get!
An underseat storage light is another great feature that I have seen people install successfully.

VK Rear Light WOES
Guys I added a pair of rear faccing LED work lights to our 07 VK tied into the Tail light assembly for my power source. NOW IVE DONE IT. These LED's draw less than a quarter amp per FYI... So one night of running and the lights went Dim then out, then tail and stop both went out. Now these operators tell me that they have lost dash lights and warning lights??? Any idea what has happened here??

Do you have a ground created when you wired in the lights?

If you look at the apex forum and the warm hands controler topic (there are a lot of posts!) it spells out how the hand warmer circuit works on the yamahas. It was all new to me, so I suggest you read it, but I will try to summarize what I gathered.
The handwarmer system on the new yamaha's is a pulsed voltage from the ECU. (It is not a constant DC voltage.) Furthermore, it will not send power to the warmers under 4000 rpm and cuts power as soon as the brake is activated. My understanding of this is that they never want to short supply the power to the fuel injection system on the FI sleds. I believe it is the same or similar ECU on all of the four stroke machines. Since the warmers are never on or being supplied with power under 4000 rpm and power is cut whenever the brakes are applied, this helps explain why the hand warmers never seem to work very well. Certainly not as well as compared to the 97 and up 2-strokes with the dual rheostats.
Hope this heps.
