Need some advice... trade the attak for nytro xtx..??

Would you trade an 07 attak gt, for an 09 nytro xtx???...I really like my attak..but the one thing, that has bothered me is it's off trail ability..it's a heavy beast. I have ridden a Nytro RTX and Nytro Fx (short tracks)...but never have been on an XTX...I loved the nytro motor...but wasn't impressed with how they handled...I also felt they were a bit stiff for my liking...is the xtx softer??? Better ride??

Would love to hear from folks who made the switch....I don't want to reget getting rid of my attak...but the xtx seems to be more my style of riding (a mix of ditches, trails, forest roads, and lakes). Gimme some input....thanks

Have a friend who jumped from an Apex shorty to Nytro XTX. He is a hardcore shorttracker (former IRONDOGGER) and he's loving it. The only problem-like all Nytro's-is lack of wind protection but he got over it.

Very different ride from Apex Attak on groomed trails Attak much better big hp drop to Nytro. Now on deep snow like deep 24" powder the Nytro XTX shines & the Attak is a dog. On unplowed FRs I prefer Attak as long as there is some pack underneath. On lake again powder would be the only time I would favor Nytro over Attak but on hardpack Attak all the way. Nytro XTX can seem tiney in moment to moment sled to sled comparo to Attak. You need to ride a Nytro XTX head to head with your Attak to know what I'm saying. I went thru the same thought process & hated the Nytro XTX on trails but it did do well in powder.

How about looking at the apex xtx. It is some better than the attak off trails, and you could even put on a deeper lug. They really are two different animals, but this might be a decent comprimise.

Not looking at apex xtx...too much coin for those.....I have a good deal on the nytro (you know who whitedust...great yamie dealers in the yoop)...its a chance to upgrade to a newer sled with low miles...kinda thinking out loud...lol

Personally, I'd stay with your Attack and extend it to a 144" with a larger lug track. Put on some mountain skis for better flotation. The handling on the Nytros haven't improved much over the years.

I made the move from the Nytro to an Apex and it handles so much better.

Are you looking at the XTX Nytro just because it is more of a stable flatter ride then a RTX, or plain FX NYtro? Trying to get to more of a stable riding position then the shorty, or looking for off trail ability? I know a lot of people who switched to the NYtro XTX over the RTX just becasue they thought it was more balanced and easier to ride and cruise then a shorty with bump ability. A lot of your question depends on riding style, and how often you need 150+ HP, and how oftien you like the torque for the twist and turns

I went from a 2006 apex gt to a 2009 Nytro a couple of years ago. I was in the same boat you were. I could not decide if I wanted an apex or a Nytro, So I bought the Nytro but kept my Apex. My son was coming to the age of being able to ride so I figured which ever sled I didnt like he could ride the other one. It ended uo being that I liked the Nytro better for my kind of riding. I like hitting the trails hard but dont try to play Baire Morgan. My son drove the Apex all last year and loved it. Big sled for a 13 year old kid. He hated my Nytro. It was a lot harder to drive. You had to lean more and it was VERY hard to steer. I had USI skis on it which stopped any pushing but also turned like a tank. I just got use to it. Near the end of last year a found a set of used Split Rail Skis close to me. The guy had them on his Nytro and was selling the sled. The new owner didnt want them so I bought them. I didnt get to install them till the following weekend as I was out of town. I Installed them on Friday night And Rode 280 miles on Saturday and 230 on Sunday. At the end of the day Sunday I forced my son to ride my Nytro. Long story short I now have a Standard Nytro and an XTX in my garage and I have never looked back. I do miss the power every now and then but its not often you can open it up more than a minute anyway. Ya the Nytro can be a bit of a handfull to drive untill you set it up right and get rid of the awefull skis. I love mine and have no desire to trade for anything else. If you decide to keep your Attack you can come try my Nytro and see if you missed out. If you ride aggesive at all I think you would like the Nytro better. Shane

I had an 09 apex rtx and traded for a 12 nytro xtx. I really like the nytro. The apex rode pretty rough on the rough trails. I like the ride of the nytro. Yes I lost some hp but that will be taken care of with a turbo. I also got a set of split rail skis for this winter.

Yeppers a great dealer & where I did my head to head demo. We had 150 miles on & another 150-200 to go so my legs were tired just too beat to enjoy the Nytro XTX + when we got my Attak off trail she trenched & the Nytro XTX floated thru. I got very tired pulling the beast out of the powder so if powder is the primary use Nytro XTX all the way. I was happy to get back on my Attak so much lees effort to ride back to dealer on loose snow trails. On the other hand when at the Yamaha Factory demo ride I was like a kid in candy store on Nytro FX bouncing off every bump & jump I could find had a blast on the Nytro shorty. But like so many others I knew the difference between the 2 sleds & wanted both sleds Attak for high milage days & Nytro to play on for afternoon rides. Engine wise Nytro engine is snappy the Attak 4 holer an arm wrenching beast. I don't want 2 sleds again so stayed with my Attak but if I had 2 probably would want Nytro FX Shorty for ditch banging. Honestly for Powder & I'm getting long in the tooth for powder so would go light,go long or go home just getting too hard for me without the lightest most powerful mountain sled availabe all the rest 2nd class. One more comment I have not tried Nytro with tuner skis but everything I read says tuner skis are a must on all Nytros so if trading tell dealer tuners are a must. I will probably be at said dealer week of Oct 22nd so let me know if you want me to look at anything for you?

I love my XTX, the one thing you would probably want is a different track on it though, the Ripsaw does not like powder. So with a new track, extro drivers, and a gear change, you'd be looking at an additional $800 to make it a true off-trail beast.

Whitedust...I was at the other place further north...the xtx I looked at had 1 3/4 lug track...wind defectors and Yamaheaters ...but had stock skis....I'm like you whitedust...a bit long in the tooth for all day powder play...but...I still like to play once in awhile...I also have to run 2 miles of ditch to get to the trail...what I like about the nytro is the lighter feel to it...these Attaks are pigs when you bury them...I think what I like most is knowing that the xtx is capable of running deep snow if I wanted...less power wouldn't bother me...this attak has more than I need

The guy further north is even better more laid back but too far for me for service but I would buy new or trade with him no problem. The 1.75" track will help the Nytro a lot for the deep stuff but still need tuner skis. My route to the trails is about 4 miles across lake, farmers field, ditches & maybe 5 miles on unplowed forest roads. So lots of powder with hardpack underneath & Attak does just fine in that. When I talk powder I'm talking the virgin deep stuff & Attak does suck for that. I'm happy with Attak GT for what I do less weight would be welcome but Yamaha really has not brought a new platform to market that floates my boat. Doo GSX SE or Gade has some interest for me but 135HP 1200 not enough since I like midrange punch of the Yamaha 4 holer on grades or wide trails gets me by slower riders & I'm gone. 130s HP just won't do that for me so staying with Attak.

I agree whitedust ...the 4 holer is impressive...I will not buy a ski doo 4 stroke....I will admit the gsx se has my attention...but only with the 800 etec...for two reasons...the lighter weight (the 1200 is not much lighter than a nitro).
And I hated how hesitant the 1200 was...I know the 1200 is faster on top...but the feel, sound and pull of a yami 4 stroke is unmatched...I don't want to start a war...but those ski doos do ride, and handle better than the yamis...they do have my interest...no doubt...however I buy Yamaha for one thing...reliability...no other brand comes close...all but one of my 4 skidoos I have owned have been towed home...and none of the 8 Yamahas I have had, were towed....that is what stops me from buying a doo...I will gladly trade some handling and ride for reliability...that being said...if the 800 etec was as bullet proof as my attak ....I d own one in the gsx se model
