Well last year I totalled my 09 LTX and ended yp buying a low mileage 09 SkiDoo 800R Renegade yeah I know I must have had some brain injuries that the docs missed, well I rode it on one trip and in all I hated it yeah it handles well and the suspension is real good at not bottoming but other than that I hated it. So come this year I put it up for sale and a fellow wants to trade a 08 LTX GT 40th. Haven't seen the sled yet in person but looks mint from pics and has 3978 miles. Do I do the even swap for my sled that has 2290 miles? How are the 08s compared to 09s? Is that the year the W arms were beefed up? How about the EC Ohlins? Any good? How about the front Ohlins? I have a ton of performance parts I took off my 09 and I know it will be fairly easy to set it up. But I've always have run Fox Floats up front so I'll be new to adjusting the Ohlins. Anything on the 08s that I need to look for other than the usual exhaust donuts and stuff? Also did the 08s come with a rear heat exchanger like my 09 LTX did? Thanks guys and if this works out well thank god I'll be back on a Yamaha.

08 LTX

I know they don't have the rear heat exchanger, I just added one to mine. Definately need it though!

I think they are both great sleds. But an 09 with less miles may not be even up with an 08 with nearly twice the miles.

I would check the NADA or KBB price and if they are close don't hagle. If there is a difference, I would point it out to him and see if he offers anything to boot. If not and you like the sled get it even up. THis sport is expensive and if you can trade a sled you don' t want for a sled you do at even money - How can we complain.

Yamadoo

IMO, you dont "NEED" the rear heat exchanger. The 08 LTX GT is probably worth more than your 09 LTX that was not a GT. The 40th Anniv. sleds seem to carry a bit higher price than the other sleds.

From a miles standpoint, 4000 miles on the 08 Yam. is not a lot. I would not be worried as much about the price difference between the sleds. I would worry more about maintenance.

At 4000 miles in that sled, your going to have bearings you will need to replace, your going to need to do the beef up kit on the rear suspension, and you are going to be close to needing a new track. If he has already done some of these things, great. The Jack Shaft bearing was supposed to be around 2500 miles.

Your probably talking close to $1000 to get those maintenance items done and you will want to do that prior to the snow falling. I would look at having him pay for that to even the deal.

I have the 08 an love my sled the best advice is to get the Ohlins revalved and a bigger spring an you are good to go I would not change my Ohlins for the fox did that last year an put the Ohlins back in.

Why the beef up kit on an 08? (In 08, ask Welter) it is not required unless you ride extremely hard.

The other things you mention, yeah maybe but I doubt his track is shot at those miles (depends on previous rider) and I am sure most bearings just need a re-grease? JMO

Well I checked the Nada and KBB and the Yamaha is worth more only a couple hundred in Nada but several in KBB. I thought the 08s came with the beefed up rear suspension and it does suck theres no rear exchanger unless he had it done. I'll be checking the thing over very well and will regrease the bearings when and if I get the sled. I already have the excel wheels to put on it 13mm sway bar Ulmers PC3 and ing module ram air so I'm good to go there. The mileage doesn't concern me much I had over 6k on my 09 as long as it was taken care off. This guy also sounds like someone who had it serviced and rode it. no racing and ditch banging He wants the skidoo for the lightness and handling he says but we shall see what happens

I just sold my 2008 ltx gt non 40th anniversary. I think 2008 was the year the skid was beefed as I never had any issues. I am a bigger guy, and rarely bottomed the machine. mine had 5250 miles on it, and I could tell that the idler wheels bearings were drying up. I never did check the jackshaft. I inspected the exhaust donuts and replaced; however to my surprise they were still perfect.
