I heard the some of the bender guy's were having this problem and to help fix they lowered(leaned) the needles.Ithink thats my next step.

By the way, I see carb heat shutoff is standard on the 05's.
Thats funny cause that is my shutoff pictured and that is exacly where I got the brass valve, nipples and hose clamps all for about $10.

It does sound like it is a problem of the carbs getting a little over heated that will cause the problem. I have had this problem ever since my sled was new. I wonder with the new heat exchanger that Yamaha just came out with for the RX1Mountain will help this problem? I just installed the heat exchanger and my dealer just installed the float bowls, my next ride on Friday will be in Wyoming. So maybe I will have to wait to see what happens.

Hot carb issue temp fix
My friend and I (both own 04 mountains) accidently found out how to solve the "hot carb" problems. Obviously, the coolant shutoff is the perminent fix, but if you haven't gotten around to that yet then try this.
Crack the throttle slightly as you crank the engine. Starts right up and moves the hot coolant out of the carb and it settles right down and runs.
We had a heck of a time restarting after fueling up, but this solved the problem. Seems the cracked throttle ofsets the rich condition and allows it to start.
Try it and see if it doesn't compensate for the rich mix.
Then put a shut off on. I have mine but haven't installed it yet.

The heat exchanger will NOT fix your problem. Also, the new deeper float bowls will actually make it worse. Go spend $5 at your local hardware store and put in the damned shut off. It takes 5 minutes. Turn it so that the coolant is 90% shut off.

I've had the same problem since FINALLY getting my new bowls. Never had a hard starting problem before the new bowls....and it's only when the engines hot. So, the coolant shut-off valve makes since to me, will install one this week. Great info. guys...THANKS!
On another note, when I picked up my sled from my dealer (he wouldn't warrenty the bowls unless he installed them) it idled like $hit. Running rough and popping. He put in a set of new plugs, still nothing. He said it sounded fine to him. Geeez?? I had to get going (300 mile drive home) so I took it like it was. When I got home I pulled the carbs to see what was going on. Figured maybe he'd rolled one of the o-rings on one of the main jet pick-up tubes when he installed the new bowls. Everthing looked fine. Still idled like crap. Then I checked the carb sync.....BINGO! Number #1 carb was out in the weeds big time!
*Note to self* check the easy stuff first!

The coolant shutoff valve did not fix mine, for the same problem. I have the updated float bowls. I will be checking float level next, and adjusting to the mininum side of the spec. Mine floods all the time. BTW, when working with the carb bowls, removing and replaceing, put a drop of oil on the o-ring for the new style bowls. The o-ring that goes around the main jet. They cut vey easy if you put them together dry.
