Does anyone actually go by the owners manual to break in a sled? Has anyone read this?? What's your opinion.....

My first ride I did a nice easy trail ride change my throttle postion constantly and put on 30 miles. My trip yesterday was a little different since there was 2' of powder so it was wide open most of the day and saw 95 on the dream meter going down hill back to the truck.

just ride sled the way you ride i beat mine 1880 miles no problems broke a few studs thou. just ride hard it wont break !!! its a yamaha ...
gnip134.........From what I've read, the important thing is to make sure the sled does not overheat during break-in. When the engine is new, the parts fit tighter and are therefore more prone to overheating - especially in marginal snow conditions. Personally, I plan on breaking in my RS Venture as Yamaha recommends. Yamaha is in the small engine business and I think they know what they are doing.

Break it in by the book.
Note that the book states no continuous operation over xxx rpms. That does not mean to never exceed that level. Vary the rpms and periodically take it over the specified level.
Just don't exceed recommended rpm levels for extended periods of time.
I agree with WFO, Yamaha engineers know what they are doing on this.

I am going by the book for the first 100. Then I'll progressively let her rip for short periods. Seriously, I think it is smart to baby it the 1st 100

Smart advice. The first 100 will go by quick. Then staying below 8k with occasional WOT for a couple of hundred will not be a very big chore. Manual doesn't say you can't dust a few of your friends in short sprints...

Don't worry too much. The motor will outlast the sled anyway, and you will have sent it down the road.

I KEPT MINE UNDER 6,000 RPM FOR THE FIRST 100 MILES. ( I WENT OVER ONCE IN A WHILE) AFTER THAT I KEPT MINE PRETTY MUCH UNDER 8,000 RPM FOR ANOTHER 100. IT'S IMPORTANT TO LET EVERYTHING SEAT WELL.

Pulled the head off of my Vector to change the head gasket for the turbo install and at 160 miles there are still crosshatches on the cylinder walls. Inside looks just like new according to dealer who's re-timing the cam gears.
