Well I am back on a yamaha. First 4 stroke and first long track. I am coming off my 05 rev 800. I am on a budget cause I am still in college. I picked up a 09 xtx and have spent too many hours already reading on ty. I already am in love with my nytro. I love the exhaust note. Well I have read a awful lot but what works best for the least amount of cash? I know skis are my first upgrade with studs being mandatory cause in MI we get a variety of conditions. I read curves xs are the best on the nytro. But, $400 plus carbides? A brand new set of pilots are $249 with one set of carbides. Also is revalving stock shocks necessary . Fronts rears or both. I am 180 + gear and ride 97% trail . I know I need to set the preload on the front shocks to almost loose and then tighten lock ring . Anything else? I just want the best results i can get before the snow flies for a fair amount of cash. Also is a revalve with dual rates a good idea or is stock fine.
First sled was a 79' enticer 340 followed by a xlt and 2 doos . This nytro is a b a sled but it also has the most to live up to cause it is the most expensive one I have bought yet. I should also have it for a very long time .
thanks
john

Mods

Save your ca$h on the ski's and shim them or flip the rubber around and throw a set of dualies on them.

Sorry Canoehead, I disagree. I've been through my share of skis and replacing is a must.

EnticerRider, Pilots work well for trail riding. If you're looking to find powder as well I would say C&A XTX's. They steer a little heavy, but float really well and carve trails really well. I think Curves are over priced for their performance. You're paying for the looks. :bling

Recommendations
2nd add would be the steering relocator kit from OFT racing, if you don't already have one. http://oftracing.com/

3rd would be a Yamaheater - A must for really cold days, and Michigan has them! http://www.yamaheater.com/

The rest is just tweaking and tuning. Eventually for handling I would recommend the Tripple Rate Springs from Hygear. http://www.hygearsuspension.com/yamsnow_nytro.html

Good Luck. With these few upgrades, you'll LOVE it!

If you are looking to narrow it down to one thing to spend money on I think you are going to have a hard time. After 3 pages of posts I think you'll see the same answers start to show up but you are still going to end up with a list of about 5 things minimum.

What I would suggest is hang onto the money and ride it. After some seat time you'll get a feel for what you think is the most important. Something is going to bother you about the machine ie, the way the skis push or how cold your hands are or the way the bars move.... and you'll have the cash on hand to deal with it.

Enjoy the sled man! I came from a Rev as well and I think you'll find the Nytro ergos an easy transition from the Rev. ;)!

Shim the skis and ride it for a year. You will know which mods to do then. *EDIT* Actually I just remembered. You just turn your rubbers around on the Nytro. Creates the perfect "shim".

I agree, just go ride the sled for a bit and fix what bugs YOU the most.

For me it was the hand warmers, my hands were frozen on my first ride, purchased yamaheaters as soon as I got back. The next ride out the tunnel filled up with slush and ice, so I tore out the tunnel protectors since I am not going to run studs, you need them for studs though. I finished off the winter like that and was honestly quite happy.

For this year now though I am adding a 1.75" Backcountry track since I ride off trail most of the time and 8" Powderhound skis with 6 or 7.5" shaper carbides.

For my weight (215lbs) and the way I ride I have been looking into having a heavier center spring and re-valve that shock as a short term fix. Eventually I will probable get dual or triple rate springs and a complete re-valve on all four shocks.

My first sled was also a 79 enticer, rode my dad's 340 then got a 300 for myslef, man those were fast little sleds!

X2 toe it out 1/4 or 1/2 too and ride it. You can read for days on what are the best mods out there. Do you NEED all of them? Probably not but after reading you will WANT them all! The stickys in the nytro section will help out a lot and steer you in the right direction. Have fun with it!
