I'm not saying a Yamheater isn't a good mod. I'm just saying it isn't a "must" since there are lots of us that are just fine without it.

I put the RSI kit on mine and spray foamed by bars. That costs around $100. ...and my hands are toasty warm. Yamaheaters are $195 and that right side factory warmer still may quit on you at some point. So I would not say they are a must have mod.
Just my .02 not trying offend anyone.
exactly what I'm doing right now.....it took three years of cold cold hands, but I eventually learn
and just buy the rsi heat kit and grips at an aftermarket shop instead of yamaha. Cheaper and same items

My stock hand warmers work good until I find myself riding in -20F temps. I may just install yamaheaters for the once or twice a year this happens.
My favorite mod for myself was the change to Pilot 6.9's. No darting and the front gets on top of the powder. The next are the Oilite front end bushings and the 12v oulet. I really want to say changing my track to a Crossover, but its not a must.

Re: Foam
I also went with foam and RSI warmers, day and night from stock. Were Revster and I live riding in very cold temps is a way of life take it from us windblown flat landers that they work.
