Well the nice thing is a guy doesn't have to buy an RMK with carbon fiber, belt drive or the weak drive shaft. They offer lower end models and the Assault without those features.
Now, for the sake of argument, what is Yamaha offering for mountain riders this year? Oh, yeah.... the same 6 model year old Nytro that can't get out of its own way in deep snow, technical riding areas unless it has a turbo or super charger for another $5,000 if you have the dealer install it so you can keep your warranty. Did the '13 Nytro MTX lose any weight? No. Did the gas tank increase in size? No. Did they make it handle better for off-trail? No. Did they charge more for it last spring and this fall? Yep.
I'm rooting for Yamaha to come out with something, anything new for '14 because they NEED IT. It will also be interesting to read all the 1st year posts about this problem and that because Yamaha has a great track record of releasing 1st year sleds with lots of problems just like the other OEM's.
Being blindly brand loyal makes you miss out on so many good things in the sled world.

Way to go. Attack me personally rather than address the technical content of my post. Nice.
Last time I checked its the head to head forum and other brands are discussed.

I agree 100%. I don't currently own a Yamaha sled but I still love the brand. Being blindly brand loyal does have its negative points for sure. Yes this is a Yamaha site and sure we don't want out right bashing but everything stated above is true. Not bashing at all just facts. Last season I went to Cat because Yamaha didn't have anything I wanted and to be honest the Poo dealer wasn't willing to work a deal with me and the Cat dealer was. Always good to try new things. But I still say this is the best forum out there no matter what you ride.

I agree Phazernut, this is an excellent forum and the crap that is present on HCS and to an extent Doo-talk and Sno-west is weeded out here. Its nice.
I get PM's from other members asking about different sleds and they've all thanked me for being honest. I don't understand why some guys are so blindly brand loyal? Unless that OEM is paying you to ride the sled, why would you ignore what is good about other brands and pretend your brand is perfect?
I'm curious to see what 2014 brings. If it's a disappointment than I'll have lost any interest in Yamaha until this time next year. I'll definitely have to demo ride a '14 Yamaha first before I buy or snowcheck. There is no way I'm going to believe the press reports about the new sled like I did the '08 Nytro. It's funny how some on here have such short term memory loss about all the issues the RX-1, Phazer and Nytro had when they were first released. Yamaha had their share of problems with those sleds in their first year just like the other OEM's are having now. The one saving grace is the Yamaha engine is generally always reliable and trouble free. That's huge!

Everybody is correct. The RX1 had a few problems, mainly heavy. Yamaha addressed some of the problems, but not the weight. Add the Apex to that, great sled, but its heavy. Then came the Phazer, not enough power, a -arms, wet boots. Nytro-3/4 of the posts are to correct OEM problems. I love my one ton, but I will avoid anywhere that I may become stuck.
I've ridden my old Vmax quite a bit this season, huge amount of smile factor just because it is so much lighter than the RX1. I've seriously been thinking about dropping a few bucks into the 2 smoke.
I really do not think any bashing is going on, just an open discussion on the problems of Poo and a comparison against Yammies.

I love my yammie. My wifes sled is a 2006 Attak..no problems, regular mantenance....But for trees..lol..its a tank..I wouldnt sell it cause love boost and its dependable..I have 2 RMKs .One for my son and one for me..But I ride it with my #*$&@ cheeks clenched..lol..When I am on my Yammie..I ride with no worries.I like the head to head cause its here to talk about other sleds..Which lots of Yammie owners have.Any sled bashing or what ever should be kept on this form..Isnt it why TY made this form head to head..To get different oppions and keep guys who have sold their yams around. And if its honest..then dish it out...And I will listien while I sit on the trail around one of those skunkadoo bonfires..lol..Yep theres a recall for skunkadoo...lol...

I've actually been pretty impressed with the handling of the new Cat 4-strokes. I've only ridden two HCR 162" turbo 1100's but they were much easier to throw around and up onto their side than either of my old Yamaha's. The HCR has a wide front end so it compared nicely with the wide front ends on my Vector and Nytro.
Of course none of the 4-strokes were as effortless to throw around as my new 2-strokes but I was impressed with what Cat has done. They were able to hide the weight much better than either of my Yamaha's. Hopefully Yamaha's new sled incorporates lessons learned from what the other OEM's have accomplished with their 4-strokes. I think all sleds will be 4-strokes eventually, its just taking longer to get there than I expected.
I don't know anyone with a Doo 1200 but I'd like to ride one of those sometime. They run about 20 lbs less than I Nytro (dry weight) I believe and come stock with at least a 10 gallon tank.

I talked to a couple guys who have the 1200 and they said they are just too heavy to be in the powder with. One of these guys was coming of a 600 etec though, so he would be used to light weight. He said 'excellent trail machine but off trail not that great.' Not sure how it would be with hillclimbing but would def need a bigger lug track on it. Havent talked to anyone who has a 1200 who uses it for that.
