I am new here and this is my first post. This is a great site for info on the yamaha sleds. I have just bought a 03 RX1 and love it. Like many others I want to upgrade to a taller seat. With the apex seat what years will fit the 03 model and does the gas tank cover have to be modified or is it a bolt on replacement.
I have also seen the Hi Ryze seat kit which looks realy nice also. With this kit does the tank cover need to be modified or is it a bolt on replacement once it is installed.
When doing the seat mod is it also a good idea to raise the handle bars also. How high can the handle bars be risen befor longer cables ar needed.

The tank will have to be cut to fit the apex seat 2006-2010 seats will work. You can only raise your bars 2" before you need to replace the cables with rx1 mountain cables.Click on the link in my sig for pictures from when I cut my tank cover and installed the apex seat.

Use mbarclay's and Kinger's posts and you will be fine. Kingers got a post on how to swap the tailight wires out of the old seat and into the new one. Cut the shroud 3.25" before you try 3.5". I think you'll find 3.25" optimum.

I just put an apex seat on my rx1 03 made a huge difference, I got my seat from Laneo he helped out huge also sledhead has alot of knowledge

Here is a link to the post for modding your existing seat. I did this not too long ago and turned out great! I only bought a 3X3 piece of 4" foam from Jo Anns Fabrics. Only ended up costing me about 40 bucks to do it, including beer!!

I forgot to mention I just found a seat here in canada from a fellow member. It needs to be recovered but the rest is in great shape and it was only $50.
