New to this side of TY... Got some question...

I just bought a 03 RX1 after selling my SRX700. Just wondering a few things about these RX1s. I really want to put a exhaust on it but is there any that arent 1200? The track isnt studded and just wondering what size studs work well on these. The machine hasnt been used in 2 years and it seems like the primary clutch is loud almost with it just idling. (It has already been tuned up.. carbs cleaned etc..) It also came with a back rest that im looking to sell but not really sure what is worth. Anybody know?

You could put a hauck or a bender exhaust on it. Both sound killer and are about 500. Have you cleaned the clutchs yet. Could be rust in the them from setting.

You might try turning the idle rpm up a bit (it might increase once it fully warms up as well). I thought my idle was too high so I dropped it a bit. I started hearing what I though was terrible rattling noise. It turns out if the idle is too low the counter shaft rattles, they all do it; its not a problem.

Synchronizing the carbs will also help with the noise. Like others have said its nothing to worry about on these 4 strokes. I have 20,000kms on my sled to prove it. Original clutches.

What your hearing is the gear reduction at low idle. Turning the idler up a notch will get rid of it. The 03's had straight cut gear reduction which are stronger then the 04+ bevel cut but very loud.

You can get by with a 1.45" stud but its tight.

Do the K/N filter mod ( Intake) and gut about half the baffles out of the stock muffle and that RX1 will run and sound awesome!. clean and Syn the carbs. Add 3 inches of foam to seat and do the shim trick on the skies for single runners. I had 15,000 on my 03 when I traded for my APEX with no hick ups.... Enjoy that motor

Any write ups on this stuff? I like how you can tune these 4 strokes much cheaper than 2!

Check out the Tech section or do a search for them. The intake is called a complete ECP system, includes: two filters, covers, jetting than the cross tube. Many have done these mods.

Make sure you rejet the carbs when you do intake . Rather than spending money on k&n filters you should check out sled dogs intake mod it is free . And does the same thing but otherwise I agree with bluebullet . Or for the seat use an apex seat cost alittle more but in my opinion a lot easier . Welcome to the four stroke side .you will be happier. Hope this helps

If you use an Apex seat, you gain the height, ( better seating position) and a good size trunk for storage

so the apex seat is a bolt on deal? no mod to fit it?

There are some mods. Trim the tank cover about 3 1/2 inches up the center to nothing in corners . Splice wires for tail light . Sounds worse than it is . I just did my second one on about an hour and a half . In the search section type in apex and seat ( just like that with the and in it ) i don't know the link name but there are several with picks . Hope this helps

RX1 seat

Easy to just add 3 in of foam to your current seat. Cover will stretch farther than you think, than just staple. Keeps original look but added height and padding. I do like the apex seat also.... up to you. Here is a pic of mine.
