New Track

yeah, thanks az. nice etiquette. this is par for the course for you. plenty of room at hcs for this. but you're right, it is just an opinion, just as the other posts are. that is what he was asking for.

you may have a point about posting again after i had already posted once, but this kind of junk should be pm'ed.

TM - this will be my only post on this but az99 has a point sir. You and a few others post back and come across as "know it alls". Hence my Yami Internet Promo Team comments.

FWIW - I rode YEARS with .975 and 1" tracks and NO studs. Never a problem, and I for one think that the 1.25 track MIGHT be too tall. How about a 1" Ripsaw?? Would be plenty for me (general trail riding).

As I have stated before, I went with a fully clipped 136" Quiet Track. I have had higher amount of slider wear with the fully clipped and I had to add extra wheels. I was told that all the clips hold more heat. My track noise was gone with the new track until my slides wore at the bend of the rails. Once I replaced the slides the noise was gone again.

Personally I would stick the 1.25"ripsaw myself but go to a fully clipped version. The 1 " lug would probably work fine for trail riding but there is going to be some point at which you will need to get off the trail and with the weight of these machines I sure don't want to be digging them out. I really don't know about it fixing the track howl since that is non-existant on my Vector. And as many years as I've always owned yammy's their biggest weaknesses were always hooking up, I thought the 1.25" ripsaw was the best solution for these sleds in years. There's a reason 3 of the major brands are running them, they plain out rock!!

I switched to a fully clipped cat ripsaw on my rage, noise is deffinetly less but being fully I ran through 3 sets of slides this season in 2200 miles and one set last season in 2000.If you don't have perfect snow fully clipped 1.25 will eat slides I ate one set in 400 miles. To me thats a pain! Plus I added extra wheels.I might switch back to my original track.

I tend to agree with you here. I would love to try out a 1" Ripsaw on both of my sleds. I stick only to trails and I DO stud. I think the Ripsaw hooks up great, but I think that the 1.25 is robbing some top end that I wouldn't mind having back.

I didn't put in studs becouse of the great hook-up with the rip saw on my 800xc. I have never had problems, and I have 5500 miles on the old track.
I think I will try the 1" rib saw and see how I like it. I will be buying a new sled after next year so if I hate it I will have to ride it only one year. It's to bad my season is over I hate to wait till next year. I guess you get used to waiting for next year when you are a snowmobiler. I'm not sure what a fully clipped track is I'll check with Nelsons.

Any idea why you don't hear the Nytro owners talking about the track howl? Is there something on those ProActive skids that is different than our Vectors with the same basic setup? There's a member on the Nytro forum that says he went from a Vector to a Nytro and the sound is not there.

i think the ripsaw does fine in powder, but i have a 136 so that could be why-but i dont seem to have any problems climbing i just have to be smart about it.

Ah, I was wondering where you were Jim. I was starting to worry.

Have a nice weekend.

Quit my job here in Wausau (couldn't stand the ownwe/boss anymore) and start my new job in suburban Milwaukee in Monday. Our house is up for sale and I've spent every waking moment of the last 2 weeks getting the house ready for showings.

Boy...you missed me huh??!!! :D ;)!
