Last night I was at the local Yam dealer and the owner showed me a new hand warmer kit, a Yamaha part, that is supposed to improve the hand warmer output. $110 plus installation labor anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hrs. Obviously, since they just got this kit in, nobody knows for sure how much of an improvement this is supposed to provide.

Is there a Yamaha factory rep, or service tech on-line here that has any idea regarding the effectiveness of this kit? If it is equal to the Rockmeister Yamaheater, I'd just have the dealer install it rather than monkey with it myself. Anybody with knowledge of this?

Just finished my own add-on additional tunnel protection for the rear heat exchanger on the APEX. I am now ready to ride, other than the kit install.

whats in the kit?....any pics?

is it new grips?.....just wondering if they have a way of getting the ECU to give more power when the sled is at idle..that was the main issue with stock.

I have heard the '10s new heaters have an insulator, and also they are supposed to give more heat at idle and low rpms, but that is not proven.

I am interested to see a new '10 at idle if they get hot or not....

Im guessing this kit you speak of from yammie is the same thing that comes on '10s.

I like ROCKS idea....its proven and many say it works well....i might stick my 07 bars back on and get his kit,but may just wait to see what the 10s are like.

I added the part number on YamahaGenuineParts.com and it registers as $0.

I wonder if they're free?

yup just saw this bulletin here....
http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... c&start=15

basically it says that these yammie heater kits are NOT same as the '10 setup...

IMO these look same as RSI kit and will NOT change the output of the ECU at low rpms and idle...

i think if you want them hot, best way to go is ROCKS kit...

be interested to see how the '10s are though....my new vector when it comes in ill check em out.

Dan

Here you go...oops sorry about the double post...
MOD.Edit: no problem, fixed by rxrider :-)

I still say with our ECU just not having enough juice at lower rpms that the difference is not going to noticeable at lower speeds...

The '10 Vector's (3 CYL) got a boosted output magneto, if I remember right of 70watts, APEX (4 CYL) remainded the same for '10 they have revised hand warmers w/insulation so those the rest of the models.

What does insulation have to do with the grips getting hot? Sorry if thats a dumb question. I added that foam insulation stuff to my 06 (sprayed it in the hole, I think I read to do that on this site). I honestly didn't feel a difference.

The INSULATION insulates your grips from the METAL bars from robbing HEAT or soaking it up, its a thin layer of insulating material they install between elements and bars.

I also tried filling my bars with spray foam...did it make any difference...NO! but Rock's kit did! I can't wait to get snow to try them out. ;)!

X2!

This is ANOTHER simple fix Yamaha should have taken care of after the first year of the problem. I'm ordering Rocks kit next week. I rather give him the money!

This kit looks like RSI's kit that sells for $40..Yami wants $99..

Guys you are now warned, the next one out using foul language is in for a vacation.

Really guys your that upset over handwarmers? Jeeshtas so many ways to fix it for less money then a night at a pub... I dont get it.

Gauntlets
RSI kit
Yamaheater (rocks)
re-wire from series to parallel on apexs
etc etc

Kinger - mostly the problem lies with the female side of the riding equation. Pretty tough to convince her she's riding a better quality, higher performance sled, when the hand warmers don't work even 10% as well as those last eight Polaris's she rode. But that aside, if you spend nearly 10 G's for a sled, they sure as heck better have a hand warmer that works in all temps. It's a snowmobile meant to ride in sub freezing weather for God's sake. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect warmers that work BEYOND expectations. I don't blame anyone for being annoyed at having to spend additional money to have a simple thing like hand warmers.
