Curious what people are thinking about. Myself I am just not excited about ANY new sled for myself.

Here is my list so far:
I like the new ski doo XP's ride but the engines just do not have any ballz coming from a SC apex nor do they have any potential, I have been toying with a turbo 1200 idea

Poo assault 800 - Lightweight, good ride but again no power compared to what I have

Cat 1100 turbo XF limited- LOVE the look of this sled sweet power with even easier potentional to get the same power I have now, ride is ok, weight is not much less then my modded apex (30lbs) but durability issues still being sorted out...and they sound like absolute CRAP, like a ole tractor or something. Normally wouldn't care about the sound but they are soooo bad JMO.

Nypex conversion - Been seriously thinking of this for the cool factor alone, I think I can shave 100lbs from the apex chassis but the amount of hours invested is insane and I dont think it would be as reliable when done just because of nonfactory wire routing, plumbing, etc and I would surely find out I miss routed something 200 miles into a trip or something.

To me I think I am going to keep putting the maint and money into my apex predator because it gives me the best of everything EXCEPT lightweight. I can stand the heft it doesn't bother me.

What are you guys toying with?

I am thinking of taking my phazer and making it run on propane with a turbo and adding a turbo to my srx and making my new 73 and 74 john deere jdx4 in asphalt drag sleds lol

Why not try to install a power steering module? Make the sled feel lighter.

"Honey, I'm out of fuel. Could you ride back to the truck and get the barbecue tank?" :nos

Apex06 - that is what I am leaning towards. Starting weight full of fuel for my sled is 678lbs. I would like to get under 600 but it may be doubtful. I know I can get down to 640 full of fuel with no loss in strength in key areas the last 40 will be a struggle!

As far as speed is concerned, I think you would only be satisfied with this:

But, after the little bit that I have gotten to know you, I think you are one trip away from the mountains to becoming a back country addict.

Save your money, book a trip with a guide/sled rental and go see the other side of this sport....

IMHO, it's more addicting than horse power.

:-o

BTW, the new Cat 1100T has the same exhaust note as a 1982 VW Rabbit diesel :tg:

LOL that sled might be fast but I dont think it would take to kindly to be jumped across a road by accident in the iowa 'back country' lol

I am INTENTIONALLY NOT going to the mountains because I know it will ruin me, and its cheaper and easier to ride in the midwest then to trailer all the way out there LOL That and I am scared of heights....150mph on a lake no problem, 20' in the air with no tether and I am wreck.... HAHA

We are getting a group that is thinking about flying out there and renting just to get a taste. I know a lot of guys that do that and sell their trail sleds and do about 1-2 trips west a year with no sled and rent. Its MUCH cheaper then modding your own and I guess a lot of places only rent nice stuff brand new 800, etc.

i dont know, im about as flat here in central north dakota as a flatlander can get. we only started going to the mountains maybe 5-6 years ago and we love it. i think everyone owes it to themselves to see that side of the sport. the first time in cooke was scaring for me, i will tell you that. riding at 10,000 feet without experience was scaring. i didnt know how to use my body weight to get around in the powder, we got stuck so many times it was just stupid. we were up there with our 136 inch tracks. well here were our sleds the first time we went out there.

me- 2000 800 rmk 136 inch track
buddy- 2001 summit 136 inch track
buddy-2001 mountain cat 144 inch track

now after a few trips to the mountains....

me-2012 nytro mtx 153 mcx turbo and all the mountain crap :tg:
my riding friends now have 07 m1000 162's

as you can see the mountain bug caught us pretty quick, while we still like to hit the ditches and fields he back home, our seasons now revolve around planning trips to the mountains. i know this is a long drawn out post, but you will only crap your pants on the first trip!

Trust me these sleds are not light by any means....

Kinger - I do stay away from the Mtn thing. I KNOW I would love it and just can't afford the time away from family, only so much vacation.

The money would be hard for me to justify, as I, like those above, would quickly just have to have a 24 Enclosed trailer ~10K; Mtn Sled 12- 14 k; Oh and then the cheep 4 dollar fuel out and back each time. My real money problem is I wouldn't want to give up the up north trail riding either. SO essentially it would all be 'add on' not 'instead of' type expense.

I am jealous of you guys who do this but scared to start, likely end up with a big smile and no cash, no time and mad family.

Enjoy and be safe guys.

Sorry to ramble.
