Try sitting on an 07' or 08' RTX. I believe that the foam in the RTX's is much firmer (if that's a word) than the others. At least it would give you an idea if the seat is just to soft to hold your weight. I know it is for me.
Good luck, Honestly unless you really want a 136" I would stongly consider the 08' Nitro RTX. Very confortable and an excellent suspension when it comes to rider weight and big bumps. It's going to be my next sled.

I know Charlie (Sasquatch) and you won't find a nicer BIG guy anywhere, his intent was to help even if it did'nt sound that way. The original post hinted at and was perceived by some as a little negative toward Yamaha, on this web site that won't fly very far and you will find many that will get quite irritated with anyone that tries to do so. Sounds like it's all worked out now lets be nice and all learn from each other.
Merry Xmas
AH thanks for the compliment little buddy. It means alot to me! If I came across wrong I'm sorry must be gettin testy in my old age.
Some guys like to hump the tank other like myself don't! If you build a machine that only can be rode humping the tank then you leave out a huge amount of people who don't ride that way. If you build a sled that takes a more middle ground approach you leave room to please all. This is what I thought Yami did. Maybe I was being to defensive.
With a simple seat change and bar riser you can hump the tank with delight. Without you can please the guys who sit to ride and snowcross is the furthest from thier minds.
With sleds like the Nytro being built I get a little scared that the Manufacture will forget about the sitdown high performance tourer. Because lets face it I do not want a Nytro for the type of -35 below touring I do. The more traditional rider back style is prefered. The Apex Attack is the limit for rider forward.
Again sorry if I offended anyone! See you soon Steve! And Merry Christmas all!

Hey
Those Yamaha fuel tanks are quite attractive but I have no desire to hump one !
It's actually the "riderback" style I am looking for.
But as stated (I think) To get my knees below my hip level, I have to push back so far I'm then sitting on the hump in the seat.
If the hump wasn't there I'd simply put an angled riser on to bring the bars back and sit back there.
The only reason I am looking at a raised seat isn't to "hump the tank"
It's to give my legs more room and keep my knees below hip level.
I think I like to ride like you do.
On an ideal sled I'd have foot pegs and ride like a chopper with my legs straight out in front of me.

Sounds like you're describing a 1972 Scorpion Stinger. Pretty much a chopper with a track. From my experience with that riding position, I'd guess your lower back would be toast in about 20 miles unless you do all your riding on airport runways . . . .

Putting my money where my mouth is.
Well.......... I did it....
I just bought a new 2007 Yamaha Attak down in Maine.
I'll go pick it up sometime in the next few weeks.
I'm having them install a 2 or 3 inch riser before it leaves their shop as well as an ice ripper track.
The dealer told me they have to install a cable extension just to accomodate a 2'' riser
(Can anyone tell me if this is BS ??? )
Anway I'll try it with just the riser and then look at seat mods later on if required.
I'm looking forward to my new sled and thanks to those here on this site who gave me some great advice.

Thanks a lot
I guess I'll let them do the kit
That way it's there if I want to paly with different risers
Any other advice on what I should set it up with ??
I have read so many reports of guys modifying just about everything
It seems like a ton of money to have to fork out to mod a brand new sled
Idlerwheels-?
Bigger spring -?
ski swap-?
etc etc
I am 6'2'' and 230 lbs before kit
I ride almost exclusively groomed trails,,, semi-aggressive.

Go to boss seats and look at the hi rise seats. it will get you 3 to 4 more inches of seat height. The problem with this can be you get to hi in the saddle and it feels tippy. I am 6'3" and put an apex seat on my rx warrior, and love the feel, but 2 to 3 inches of foam added to the top would be perfect. The apex seats as said are stiffer, and I believe the mtn seats are even stiffer yet. Maybe find someone who wants to swap you seats. The boss will be between 5 and 600, but it may be worth it for you. Maxdlx

Thanks
It's certainly an option
I think I'll ride it a little with the stock seat and then assess
I may even try having a local upholsterer custom build a small leather covered seat cushion that I can just strap on top of the factory seat . I think about 2-3 inches boost will get my knees below hip level where I want them
And It will be a great deal cheaper and easier than changing the whole seat.
I'll post later with pic's if it works out.
(hmmmmm... maybe a smal business potential here)

I think switching to after market skis would be a wise investment. See if your Dealer can upgrade the skis, get what you can by trading in the new stockers before they hit snow.

I'm running the trail version (6' wide), got them used, can't remember price. The Powderhound version (7 or 7 1/2" wide) apparently perform the same as the trail version but with better deep snow ability. I did shim them to bring the front of the carbides down, which is opposite of other skis out there. They are an easier turning ski, as opposed to the C&As (I hear) and work well when pushed. The next skis I'll buy probably will be C&As though as I want to carve more.

Don't have them put on a cable extension. Have them install the Mtn. cable. That way there is no joint. Besides I think the cable is only like $17.00. Much better way to go.

I had C&A razors, and now powder hounds. the powder hounds steer way easier than the razors, and corner as well maybe slightly better. The floatation is way better with the PH, but they are wider so they should. I wish instead of razors I'd have tried the xt's they are wider than the powder hounds, and have the big edge keels for better deep snow turning. I like the looks of the simmons gen II but man 10 inches is wide. LOL Maxdlx
PS you can get 2 inches of semi hard foam in the stock seat cover. Maxldx
