I love the rest of the sled but because of the poor ride and handling the rest no longer matters!
The shock in its present form is functional (worked well on a 1986 sled), and if your dealer warranties it, he'll just put on another POJ hyd shock. I too have complained since day 1, but I do not expect the dealer to eat the cost of a decent shock (cheapest so far I found = $265). My dealer #2 is working with me from a labor and revalve cost standpoint. THat's all I can ask of him. If he wants to sell me an Ohlins at his cost (hmmmmm!!), that and me bringing in a case or 2 of brewskis!
2more - and you more of an agressive trail rider or a "mostly cruzer" like me? Can't wait till you get some miles on yours with the Ohlins. If Deycore is correct, the right rebound damping will make a big difference for us trail cruzers.

Seriously!!! - you and I are of the same opinion on the ride (mine handles just fine) if you can afford it, put an M10 in it!!!

I'd have to say that I'm mostly an aggressive trail rider. Many times when theres a bunch of whoops that are beside the groomed trail through the wider pipeline easements, I'll choose the rough side and give it some throttle just for fun. I like getting it up in the air a little.
That's the main reason I changed the shock. The stocker rode very nice for me in most conditions, but didn't slow the suspension down enough in either direction on good bumps. I'm anxious to try it out.

Not trying to rub it in....this weather sucks, and the season is quickly going by!!!
Honest to God I wish there was a "rent a shock" place!!!!! Wish I could try b4 buying!!!! I can afford Deycore's $265, but will it get me $265 of improved ride quality?? Dang!!!

I dropped my sled off at the dealers this morning and had the head mechanic come out and have a look at it. I got quite a bit of attitude from this guy. He agreed to go over the skid but could find nothing wrong with it as far as sit in and rebound. He gave me the impression that I was wasting his time as he already had a full day of work ahead of him.He tells me that the suspension on this sled is stiff to begin with as it is more of a performance sled than a cruiser. With it set to full soft this is as good as it is going to get.
.He told me he would do what he could.
I will try it when I pick it up but I am not expecting much.
Time to move on

If you can afdford it, I would move on too! Cat 660T or Poo FST Classic. No worries about the ride quality of the Poo FST!!!

I don't get where the dealer says they are supposed to ride stiff. Most say the opposite and they were designed for a big ride improvement over the ProAction. I think they achieved that goal. I've ridden my friends last 3 cats and my other friends last 3 Polaris. They both call my Vector plush. The cats have ridden well, especially the F7, but my other friends Polaris all ride like crap compared to this. Could be the way he sets them up though. They are sheer torture for me to ride.
I've got to stop commenting in these threads I guess because I still scratch my head over stiff ride comments. Nobody seems to be coming up with solutions and I'm trying to firm mine up a little. Tons of transfer, and a cushy ride.
Good luck with your dealers. I know how frustrating that can get.

Wouldnt have taken very much to improve that skid! Ruff ride!

I scratch my head over people saying that this is a cushy riding sled
harsh is probby a better word
I'm working on solutions but I don't have unlimted funds to do it. I've had done and reported on front shock changes and skid front shock/spring changes. These are all steps in the right direction.
I called my dealer today and asked him to contact Yami and attempt to get a special price on a Nitro shock. He's going to call me back this afternoon. I have a price on a custom built shock from Deycore to replace the POJ rear skid shock
Please dont say nobody is working on it. THat is simply not true.
You want firmer....you already did the Ohlins....now revalve the front track shock STIFFER, put the Viper progressive spring on it and buy the heavier torsions for the rear. Sounds simple to me. Easier to get this skid stiffer than plusher.
Good luck with your dealers. I know how frustrating that can get.

Down boy! I didn't say nobody is working on it. I said nobody has seemed to come up with a solution yet. I agree that the rear shock is poor and behind the times, but I don't know how a shock that has almost no dampening can cause a stiff ride?? Seems just the opposite.
Also, when I said that I wanted to firm mine up, I didn't mean more spring. I'm happy with the spring performance. I'm looking for a little dampening, not more spring. In my mind, a shock that doesn't allow the suspension to slam through all the way to the stops on big bumps would help imensely. I'm sure that the few members that are having issues with
harsh ride aren't making things up, but as far as my sled goes, HARSH IT AIN'T. Some of you seem to get mad at people that say they like their Vectors. Sorry.
And please stop insinuating that I've never ridden a nice riding sled. That is kind of an insult. I know plush when I feel it, and this skid is very soft for me. Maybe there is a perk to having a little excess body weight. My riding friends can't believe that I'm messing with my suspension, as they were very impressed last season. (they are all die hard Yamaha haters too)
Keep us informed. Over and out.

Picked up my sled at the dealer yesterday morning. Went for a ride yesterday afternoon and I must say I am a lot happier with the ride and handling. It still is not what I was hoping for but I now believe it is the nature of the sled. I can live with that. My wife loves driving this sled so next year I intend on trading my Grand Touring in on a Rage or Vector G.T.
Thanks for your thoughts and advise.

What did the dealer do to it that made it better?

Don't know! I had already set the suspension to full soft before dropping it of.
I didn't look yet to see what was changed. I will remeasure the spring settings and report back. Looks like he has set the transfer rods to full transfer however the ski's aren't in the air as much as I thought they would be.

I'll report on my ride yesterday but I set my transfer rods to full+ transfer and the ride got better. When I say "full+" I mean I'm going beyond the lines and turning the nut until you can just see the shoulder of the transfer rod. I'm guessing I'm gaining the equivalent of 1-2 lines, and it helps. I also agree that while the skis are in the air, it's not while cornering, it's when you punch the throttle going stright ahead and the sled is still in control....no problem.
Now for the rear shock.....
