No start code 12

Washed the sled today before putting it away for the summer, when i went to start it up to let the stabilizer run through it ,it cranked but no start . I noticed the yellow light flashing and code 12 on the dash. Sled ran fine on the last ride with no problems. Is it possible the crank sensor went bad with no prior signs? Or did something get wet when washing it, lucky it happened at home and not on the trail. Sled is a 2006 attak with 14000km. any ideas?

The sensor will let it restart eventully if it's going bad while trying to restart. Usually you have to have alot of mileage on it as well.
I wouldn't doubt something got wet. I rode in real slush conditions and when I went to restart after shutting down for a break it wouldn't start. It flooded I think due to water/slush. After a while it started and never did that again. So when I ride in harsh conditions I let it idle down for a while before turning it off hoping it drys up some.

Yes it will go just like that. Happened to me on the trail last year. Sled ran great, stopped to take a break. Went to restart and sled just kept turning over and wouldn't fire. Code 12 came up. fortunately I was at an intersection with a trail that was a shared road. Had to call my rescue bunny to come with the trailer.

Tried to start it again tonight, still nothing i guess i will test the sensor then change it out this summer.thanks for the info

This is the one I replaced it with instead of the entire OEM stator. If you wanted to replace the stator I would recommend using the OEM.

Note: I did have to open the mount holes to get it close enough, but this was stated in the directions that came with it.

If you have a multimeter its pretty easy to test to see if it's the crank sensor.
Theres a plug up in the nose of the sled under the plastic cover near the regulator/rectifier.
Just unplug the connector and check the ohms.
If it dont meet factory specs it needs to be replaced
Takes about 10-15 mins tops and you know exactly if thats your issue
If it is the crank sensor (which i bet it is ) i would suggest replacing the entire stator assembly since it is far easier than
Trying to fit an aftermarket crank sensor in there. Ive read some horror storys of guys trying to save 100 bucks and end up wasting a week of time screwing around getting the proper fit and spacing.
Your also going to need a new cover gasket.

Turns out it was the crank sensor, changed stator assembly and it fired right up. Now I have a left side heat exchanger leaking. I guess I should have changed sleds last year. Thanks for all the help.

If your going to fix the leak and keep the sled i highly suggest installing a set of tunnel supports.
They will hepl to take some of the flex out of the running boards and will help to keep those heat exchangers from leaking.
I have over 13000 miles on mine with no signs of leakage.
Yamaha sells them to fit your sled in the accessories catalog.
