Is it possible to get 190hp out of the RX1 without a turbo, run on pump gas, and be trail reliable? If so, who builds such a motor? I've got a buddy thinking about coming over from the "green side" and doesn't want to get into a turbo program. And thanks.

Yes you can get added hp,but 190 or for that matter 180hp i dont think it is possible to get that kind of trailable hp for that matter, the motor would be so high strung, you would need to turn it 12-15,000 rpms and now you would have very low belt efficency,if 10,200 turns out to be around 8,500 actual clutch rpms now what would you have at say 14,000 rpms, you guys are having trouble hooking up now with stock belts, slipping what would you have now w/this kind of rpm hp you are asking for, another thought if freedies kit dynoed out at 138-139 max with his kit what was it really? So do you see how easy it is for these guys to fudge numbers to say there kit is this much, when they are starting with 145 hp yammi claims and adding from there 35+ hp now there kits are most likly 160-170 max and thats on the high side, look at hauchs kits add up there hp you will be surprised at there numbers, not as high as one would think, but they may be closer to reality than you might think.

Can you get the HP out of this engine...sure but don't use the word reliable and 190 in the same sentence. Bore spacing is too narrow to build any appreciable big bore kit. (ours only takes it to 1080cc) Stroking the crankshaft is an option. I build both 4 stroke and 2 stroke engines about every day and we do lot's and lot's and lot's of GSXR's, Hayabusa's, ZX12's and others. Our 1300cc Stage 3 Hayabusa's at 1300cc make 201-204 Rear wheel horsepower...that puts the engine at about 220. 1300cc is 79.3 Cu. In. This equates to 2.77 HP per Cu. in. A 1000cc RX1 is 61.0 Cu. In. This means that you would need 3.11 HP per Cu. In. Sorry but the RX1 or the R1 engine is not that much better than the Fuel Injected massive valve size, massive throttle body sized Hayabusa's or GSXR's.
If someone is claiming that they make 190 HP NA with stock bore and stroke, they are lying to you. I have built GSXR 1000's race engines that have gone out against some of the highest budgeted factory supported race teams with megadollar budgets and supposed mega HP and ran competetive with them at a supposed HP deficit going to our engine. You tell me how that happens! Sorry, no disrespect intended.

Well, now I know. What horsepower is obtainable then to be reliable and run on pump gas? This guy is really serious.

Guy's I was just in FIX power sports this week, he builds some of the factory sponsored RX enduro motors and I have seen the dyno sheets, of the available mods for "us" the trail riders. Low 180's looks externally stock and 192 with air box out , flilters ETC. There is a tremendous amount done internally to these motors, Jerry does not discuss what , he wants your motor and about 1800$ for parts for the 180 HP and time/ labor is on top of that.
If he is lying, well YAMAHA believes him.
Let it snow Yamadoo

So what you're saying is that 180's or so is obtainable for the trail and with lots of trouble free (hopefully) miles? Where is this engine shop located? Do they have an email address? And again, thanks.

Sorry for the delay,
I have no personal experience with the motors but he answered "yes " to the trail and reliable question to me. I have had work done by him and things "work' very well for me. I am not personally a skilled mechanic or tuner so have never taken the mods apart to see what he did. But I have 7 k on a sled he has set up and the only tow home was a stud thru the heat exchager. It is possible to see those numbers but not on pump gas and you would need to re-build every year depending on the amount of kms/miles.And I would definatly invest in a crank job(knife egded, balance and blue print)as well as titanium connecting rod's.

He has been a Yamaha sponsered Racer for years, remember the HP/ acceleration of Chris Vincents early sleds, some of those he set up, now is building Yamaha's enduro RX motors, thats the best info I can give you. He did say that many of the bike mods they tested early where not that successful when tested through CVT clutching of a snowmobile.
Would love to try one for 10,000 miles and report

Thanks, guys. You've given me the info I needed. I will certainly pass all the info to my buddy. I gotta say that there are a bunch of good guys on this site. That's what it's all about.
