I am considering moving on from my 2005 mach Z to a 2007 RTX. I have not ridden a rtx, but have scene many running on the trails. They seem to handle good. I ride mostly in Michigan and the trails can get pretty beat up on the weekends.
For those that have ridden a mach Z and an apex, can you tell me how they compare in the studder bumps and bigger bumps. I am not worried about the speed comparison. I know I can add a SC if it is not fast enough ;)!

I can't offer anything on the Z since i haven't had enough time in the saddle on one. I have an 06 RTX and i found it to handle great on aggressive trail riding. The FLOATS preform flawlessly and smoothly on rough trail as intended. Big G-out bumps were less to be desired since it would bottom hard but since has been fixed with the stiffer spring and re valve. You would not need to worry about this with your having the ProActive CK Skid. It handles awesome in the groomed stuff. Some people didnt like it but i found it to rail pretty good. Some inside ski life but simple adjustments and maybe a 13mm sway would eliminate that.

Riding position is probably the most identical to the REV chassis out of the other 3 manufacturers. Not quite as forward when standing but i fixed mine with a pivot adapter to move the bars forward and that allows you to stand further forward in the running boards over the center of mass for the sled.

As far as trail riding the acceleration i feel is better than most sleds out there stock for stock.

There is the weight issue also but I got used to it after a few long rides. Its really most noticable when your "ditchbanging" than if your pounding moguls. If your riding pretty rough trail i don't feel you would be more tired on the RTX than the Z just because of the weight difference as i am not. Once you learn the nature of the sled the weight factor is really not there. For me that is.

I love mine but would not be against riding a z for a full day to get a real world comparison.

My decision was made on reliability, fit & finish and the technology Yamaha has brought to the table with the 4 strokes. They are heavier but they seem to get lighter every year with little changes they make. They also dont ride like they are heavy either.

Thats my feedback on my experience on mine alone.

I had both. Riding position is about the same. Standard Rev is more rider forward than both Z and RTX.
06 RTX with mono shock is hands down winner in handling department on 05 Z. 05Z had shocks that should of been on a 380 Fan. (junk)
RTX has more inside ski lift, but other than that RTX is much better sled in the handling department.
Performance is about a wash with Z winning when it ran good. Mine was fast one day and slow the next. ( with updates) I gave up on mine.
4 stroke engine will grow on you.
Good luck with your choice!

Thanks for the responses. I have a very good running Z with x package shocks. I am 99% sure I am going get rid of the Z and purchase an 07 RTX this Saturday. I am growing out of my "need for speed" stage and am looking more towards comfort, overall performance, fit and finish, etc. I think Yamaha is the way to go for all of the above.
Now all we need is some snow.

i rode machs since 88....had every mach z they ever made...I even had an 06 last season, and got rid of it cause too many issues all around.....

I did like the FLAT cornering the mach gave me...but that was only thing...

once you lower the rtx,it will be near as flat as the machs....the seats are soft, and the MONO rear skid is truly PLUSH!....i still cant believe how well it sucks up bumps, much softer and smoother then any mach ever was....I dont know if you can push the mono as hard to rough stuff however.

as for speed?..I am a huge radar speed freak, and was really worried about going from 170hp to 150...well,let me tell you...most days on radar, there is only one or two machs than can beat me...while 4 or 5 machs are slower....so speed is not an issue...

fuel economy is awesome.....actually abit better then my mach was....and pulling up to the REGULAR PUMP is just awesome...and NO MORE OIL....this is always fun on those 3 or 4 day trips, when you never need to look for oil!..

i gotta say,i would NEVER buy another 2 stroke sled...EVER.....and this is coming from a DIE HARD DOO GUY!....

you will simply LOVE IT>

oh yeah, nearly forgot the BEST THING about going from MACH to APEX......you can save litterally HUNDREDS of dollars on BELTS ALONE!...

Ive heard guys running 10 thousand miles on a belt!...I know i would spend 150 bucks several times per season on mach belts, cause they would be ready to blow at about 500 miles....

well, with the apex, you dont even need a spare!...and you can POUND it out of the hole all the time...and still the belt looks perfect!..

buy the RTX....you will never look back!..trust me!!!!!

Ive got an 06 Attak (my wife used to ride a 600 SDI adrenaline) found a GT at great price last year and that is what she rides now. She loves it and never wants to go back to a 2 stroke.
