so I was doing a preride inspection and found this! seems the lower gear bolt backed out. I had the track changed at 8k miles and now have 14ish. Did the bolt just back out? Should I call the dealer who did the track swap? What are you thoughts, thanks!

it must have happened recently or you would have lost oil and bearings shortly after. kind of hard to blame the dealer 6000 miles later. get a used cover off this site and locktite the bolt back in.
I would take the sled to the dealer who did the work and I would most definitely blame said dealer who did the work. This is not common and obviously this bolt was not installled correctly. I would suggest you tell them you will pay for parts and they can do and eat the labour.

That is more common than one may think. Happened to my 06 Apex. Never noticed any problems till I went to change the track after 3 years. Funny thing it never threw any oil out. Just had it welded up and lock tight the bolt in. Has never come loose again. Cover is magnesium and any good weld shop should have no problem fixing that.

do you think I have other damage??? What am I in for in terms of possible issues?
The bolt should have been locked and proper torque when the shop did it. I dont think you will have any other damage because the chain is on the gear cant come off which is why it was not noticed. That bolt should not be doing that especially done at a shop and dont let them tell you otherwise.

I had no other damage. But like I said it is not uncommon. Friends 09 Nytro did the same and both my Apex & his Nytro were assembled at factory.

Any advice when I confront dealer?

There certainly has not been that many posts here about this problem and neither of my rx1 have done this. Which is why I still say this is not that common if it was it would have been reported here repeatedly.

It happened to mine a couple of years ago. since I am the only one who has ever cracked the case, I would put the blame on myself. Mine looked like a drilled out hole. I patched it with a solid washer and JB Weld, still holding w/o any problems.

Stopped at the dealer tonight near my house and after me talking with them they chose to give me a new cover with bearing free of charge. Restored faith in Reynolds Motorsports in Buxton Maine! Eric the service manager is top notch...
