Lots more time on the sled and still needs more tweaking. I discovered even with the turbo at 10psi I can't pull the stock gearing in deep wet powder up steep chutes. I have my shockwave turned all the way in and only hit 8200 up steep climbs.

When I was climbing sugar powder I didn't notice the drop in RPMs until the temp climbed and the snow setup more.

I am going to gear down to 18/40 to see if that pulls the RPMs back up and then turn the shockwave back down a ton.

Maybe sending in the secondary and shockwave to Val Simmons should be next on the agenda.

Did get to meet the guys at OFT at Togwotee and they are great. I didn't get to ride with them as they were leaving as I arrived.

I am convinced I am getting their top dash vent kit and pod relocate after seeing it in person.

What I can't decide is if I should pull the trigger and get the 162" power claw or the Challenger extreme 2.5" track and OFT rail extension with wheels.

I did really like the handling improvement with moving the Slydog Powder Hounds skis forward 1 5/8".

One last mention about the teather/oil breather valve modification from Bill Jacobson. It was my favorite modification on the sled. To be able to Roll and Go without concern about loosing a quart of oil was priceless. It worked without a flaw and was nice to finally have a teather on the sled. Props to Bill for a fantastic design improvement.

2 days in Togwotee left and am getting tired.

are you still running stock helix and weights? give me a holler, and I think I have a combination for you on the clutching...I posted most of it in the TTabs section...will let you know about how it works tomorrow with the Oft boys...

IMHo, have had the Powerclaw, it is ok, significant improvment...but if you want climbing and powder track, the 2.5" is better...I think I am going to go back to 162...the 174 is a little too much, and compromises some of the handling that I prefer, and makes it a little more work, but is WAY better on pulls...but I am not a big pull rider..so the need is pretty limited...

What gears are you pulling? I am running 20/40 and would like to keep them and would assume I could attain super track speed if I can pull them. What I am finding is that when the engine senses a high load the clutching is screwed up and drops the RPMs and track speed too much. Probably too heavy of primary weights. I would maybe like to get a set of supertips from Allen Ulmer which should help.

I already over rev on the hardpack with my clutching. On the trail at 9000ft I hit 9000-9100 and pull to 95 MPH. I would love to see that sort of track speed when I am climbing.

I am running the stock Apex 8FS00 weights 10.3 rivet heel, 13.3 mid and 13.3 tip and was 77.4 grams total. I ground off 4 grams from the tip to get it down to 73.4 grams. I was running the apex 47 straight secondary, but changed it out for a shockwave. I am still running OSO at 90, but the belt was slipping so I turned it up to 100 degrees. Stock primary spring and stock 16.5 mm rollers.

Current setup over revs on hardpack trails to 9000-9100 and in sugar snow pulls to 8500. In the heavy wet stuff dropped to 7800. I turned the shockwave all the way in and pulled to 8300 in the steep wet stuff, but lost track speed.

I still pull up stupid stuff, but the 2 XPs I ride with can out climb me with 200HP kits (40lbs lighter than stock) and 156" challenger 2.5" tracks and perfect clutching. I should be right there with them at 10lbs of boost, but my 153" power claw trenches much more than theirs so I would bet a 162x15 CE would put down about the same footprint. If I get my track speed back I should be there with them or better.

I am at a loss as to why I drop RPMs and track speed so much when the clutch senses a heavy load. Any advice would be awesome.

Otis, MT and I are discussing this on the way to the hill. It sounds mostly like a secondary problem... too much spring. A purple Cutler spring @ 100* and the Shockwave @ 45* should fix you up. Tune the rpm via the primary from there.[/code]

Boosted sleds need a tight secondary to keep the belt from slipping (if memory serves me right, should be 100lbs preload). Get an artic cat green secondary spring run it at 30-deg. Set shockwave in the middle and adjust primary weights accordingly. Supertips work well get the 60G profile weight the tips, use 14.5mm rollers

Running a huge secondary spring is only creating more friction in the secondary. Give me a call on Monday if you'd like Otis.

Hey otis,
Seen you at tog here and there. Nice looking sled, those slydogs look really good and it sounds like a step up from the stock skis. Are the slydogs less twitchy on the trails then the stock skis?

Have not posted an update forever. Upgraded to the new challenger 162" x 15" x 2.5" track and geared down to 18/40. Kept all the clutching the same, but found out I had blown the exhaust gasket and was dropping boost.

Well after the mods I kicked some ski-doo butt on the mod sleds. Out pulled them on everything. Sled absolutely rocked last year!

Now only thing left is to get the handling perfected. Hate the heavy steering, difficulty sidehilling, and the feeling I have to muscle the sled around.

Well off to get the sled to Skinz for the next couple of weeks for a "turbo black" treatment. Cant wait. Just as good as getting a whole new sled. If it handles on par with the Polaris pro sleds I will be in heaven.
