Other day i drove to work wothout a problem starting or whatever. After work turned the key woth the error code 43 coming up.....fuel pump... So got it into the shop in the warm and within 20 minutes she started without a problem. Got home bought some gas line antifrezze and today with -35 overnight went to start and it took 4 times to get her going and stay going so after work again got error 43. Dont know why its only poping up then when it was even colder the noght before. Anyways same thing hauler her in the shop and within 20 monutes she started no trouble.
Anyways thing about it is to me I live the 4 stroke but when it starts going to -40 and -50 I dont think ill be able to get her started at all....seems like this yamaha isnt good for cold weather and its a snowmobile!

more than likely you have a relay problem..freezing up ...need to take it out clean it up and put dilectric grease on it...????

Yeah, I carry a spare relay just in case. I have yet to use it but I am told there is a possibility relay not working in the cold. My Nytro starts in -35 without too much problem. If my sled won't start I have done the hot water trick on my RX1M. I pour hot water on the cylinder head and the sled fires up immediately.

Also for sub cold temps a guy told me to get a light bulb and plug it in and lay it under the oil container and hour or two bwfore startup. Yamaha shoilda put a block heater into the 4strokes.

We've also mentioned in other threads of using an oil pan heater, don't over do it on the rating, but they would be great on the engine. Thats def getting cold for startup on any engine.

Anyone know how much of the oil lays in the pan while parked?

It's a dry sump so it would be minimal. If your going to warm anything up I would recommend the oil tank. Try a plug in battery blanket wrapped around it and you should be fine, but personally I prefer my heated shop. :tg:

Yes I realize, but there is some oil there and more so when parked as its runs down into the pan. Just wondering how much.. Been so long since an oil change I can't remember. ha

I did drain all the first oil change and what I recall was approx. 1/4 of a litre, in other words less than 1 cup. (not including what was in filter).

There is no hydro at my camp so plugging anything in is not an option. Hot water works amazing. My sled would barely turn over. Add hot water, turns over fast and starts right away.

Just did my relay, the new ones are a new upgrade(2012) went through the same thing with my phazer and now my nytro.I now carry some pocket pack hand warmers to throw on the relay to warm it up...was told ..AGAIN ..that the new relay should be good in the colder weather

Just ordered the oil pan heater and picked up the dielectric grease today. Figure t all out tomorrow. Hopefully this all works because its gunna be getting to -50 by january and february lol
