I have the piece that I cut off of my cover and can make a template out of cardboard but it really isnt that hard to make the cut, IF you remove the cover first.
Put some masking tape on the cover, by the seat.
From the center of the cover, by the seat, measure up 3 1/2 inches and put a mark with magic marker.
The front of the cover has a long flat section that goes across the front and you have the hole for the gas cap. Measure alongside of the hole 15 7/8 inches on both sides and mark it.
from the corner of the cover, where it ends by the side of the gas tank, connect the lines.
I then transfered the line to the inside of the cover, and I used a die grinder with a 3 inch cut off wheel and cut below the line. I then finished the cover by rounding off the cut with a file or sand paper.
It is a lot easier than it sounds, BUT you do have to be careful to not take off too much. You can always take off more but you cant add more.
