I am working on my first oil change. My skid plate has no bolts holding it on... It was only suspended by the two side panels. Do bolts or darts hold this thing in place? This is the stock skid plate i am talking about.

It looks like there are threaded mounting points that align with the skid plate... are those an accessory, or why are they there?

I had to put the threaded inserts into the prefab holes in the frame. Unless you had an actual belly pan or some other kind of aftermarket under protection cant see why they would be threaded.

When you buy a Yamaha plastic extra skid plate. In that kit included are 4 aluminum thread inserts that you install into the holes of the frame.
Screws come in the kit too, or you can order the inserts alone.

X2 on the mountaintech plate. Rode through the trees and stumps and you name it this weekend to get to some good backcountry riding and bounced off numerous stumps. The plate still looks brand new, wouldn't want anything else. Top notch

X 4 on the Mountaintech skid plate! The design of the stock skid plate hurts more than it helps. The location of the aluminum reinforcement on the stock is directly under the oil filter. I took my sled on one ride after an oil change with the stock skid plate and when I took it off to install the Mountaintech it had bent my oil filter! And I didn't even hit anything!
