2012 Yamaha nytro xtx
so I bought a 2012 Yamaha nytro and was wondering about suspension sag? after riding the other day I noticed it was sitting low so I pulled up on the back and there was about 4-5 inches of play, then when I let go it sat back down to where it was before. now yesterday I went out to look what setting it was on (high, medium, low) it was on high, but when I tired to lift it up it didn't have much play and was sitting high! I know they are gas shocks so does riding it heat that up enough to sag some or is the shock bad? I have read that the nytros do have this problem a lot but I'm just curious...I want it to be ready to ride this season plus I like my things to be in good shape! anything would be great! :sled1:

Cheapest method of ridding most of the sag is Hygear torsion spacers along with X-Click spring cams approx $100.00 Usd. Another way is Star Suspension kit, which I believe is around $300.00 Cdn. The suspension geometry flaw was never resolved on these sleds.

Read every post you can find about the suspension in the XTX . You will see that it is a 50/50 mix of the hygear stuff solving the problem and not solving the problem. The torsion spring spacer is a good idea and should be on the sled from factory in my opinion. There is to much free space between the coils and the shaft. Also some guys resorted to using Apex springs and that seemed to help a bit also but not cheap either. I don't have a xtx but I have installed a star suspension in a buddies sled and it made a huge difference in the way the suspension worked and no more 5" sag . I read everything I could find on the star suspension and I could not find anything bad said about it. For some reason I think I even came across a post from Ulmer Racing and he installed it on a customers sled and he said it was a good upgrade . Ulmer has a mechanical engineer background so if he thinks it works good then it must work. I either read it or I was talking to him about it . One or the other.

Hygear torsion spring spacer and running the spring on the stiffest setting solved my problem.

Hygear torsion spring spacer, shock rebuild with sport revalve and running the springs on the medium setting solved my problems and I weigh 255 with gear. I originally had to run the spring on the highest setting as well until after the shock revalve for my weight and riding style. Also maintaining suspension components and re-greasing thru out the season.

My question to you is would that star suspension kit void a warranty? I bought it with the y.e.s on it still for 2 seasons? Thanks by the way for the advice!

Thanks everyone for the above my question to everybody do those hygear torsion spring spacers make the sleds ride rougher?

Warranty is all going to depend on your dealer, if you have a good dealer that has your back then no it won't void it. I don't see a reason for it to void the warranty unless it some how failed and caused other damage to your suspension. The kit is actually quite beefy and you are only making the suspension work better. The same dealer that would void your warranty for the star suspension would also void it with hygear spacers and different torsion spring cams. Best to talk to your dealer and see what they say. Maybe they have a good tech there that is good at revalving shocks and can set you up.

maybe list exactly where you live and there could be someone close to you that has something done to there suspension and you can try it out or have a chat about it. For me getting a shock set and revalved for my body weight would involve me sending the shock out somewhere and I have no idea who is good and redoing shocks in Canada besides Robert at Star Suspension He does shocks also. I usually pay $100 just for a shock rebuild here in Canada, have no idea what it would cost for a revalve from someone who knows what he is doing.

I had Robert do my center shock when I installed the XTX kit. Also installed the stiff spring he suggested. Call him, very helpful.

No.
The spacers make the springs sit straight and work the way they are supposed to. You can actually set your adjusters one softer and lose less ride height, ride softer and bottom less.

Just wanting to clarify If you installed the spring kit which comes with spring extensions and requires you to drill out your side rails in order to re- position . I'm hoping this is reliable

Wad the start suspension kit hard to install?

No. I removed the skid to install mine and removing the skid was the hardest part.

It is recommended to get the spacer added to the front shock.
