Has anyone played around with gearing on there 08 ltxs? Just wondering if this would be a good thing to do to gain more low end pull and quicker acceleration, I dont care about top speed as long as I still get around 85-90 out of it,

Has the vector gearing changed between 07 and 08?
My 08 seems to pull harder than our 05 rage.

I thought the 08's pull alot harder too but there the same gearing.

Thanks 116, I was ready to open up the gear box to check.
I still might because mine is a demo sled.

I got an 08 vector LTX GT. I was talking to my local dealer the other day about the grunt that my sled has :) I have a friend that has an 06 Rage and the dealer said that he thinks that the 08' 120's flat out pull alot harder than any previous year 120's. I would have to agree as I have rode this Rage and my 08 Vector in the same day and same trails and I thought the same thing.

You can gear down, there are many options.

As for pulling harder... New part numbers on the 08 120 engine for cams, crank, cylinder head, cdi box... it's probably a 125+ or so these days.... just guessing.

No kidding? Hmmm...if there really are internal engine changes, it seems like Yamaha would be touting them in their literature. Did the clutching change at all?

The sheaves have new numbers, but all the weights. springs, and helix match.

Yamaha has underated the 130 in the FX, so it would make sense if the changes to the 120 are in fact performance enhancing that the number remains the same.

It would be interesting to see if the CDI would drop into the older machines and add a pony or two. Now that we are taking about it... does anyone have know the timing curve for the old CDI? Could be part of the top end limit... backing off the timing.

Until someone dyno's it this is all speculation.

I'm not shure you think yamaha would have said something.
The first time I rode an 08 vector.I thought I was on an apex at first.
There is something different there alot more powerful and I'm use to running well tuned in nytro's and vectors.

In one of the snomo rags, there was a blurb about the 2008 Vector and Olav Aaen said that it produced 122hp on his dyno (at least I think he was talking about his dyno). I don't recall which magazine Aaen contributes to, I'll try to see if I can find the article. But, if it is indeed making 122hp before break-in, then there may be some truth to the talk of increased hp on the 3 bangers.

Not to throw a wrench in the gearbox, but the manufacture date on my 08 vector GT demo is 06, probably late 06, but that would mean any engine changes that occurred were already in the works on the early demo sleds too, cause this sled rips!
I did put the ek plugs in it from day 1 so I guess i attributed any power gains to that over the 05 rage we have.
Anyone line up an 08 with an earlier model.
I might get a chance this weekend.

Don't the 08's have 22-39 gearing and the 07's have 22-38 gearing. Could that be the feel of speed increase.
