Quick question to those who bought their Apex new...buddy of mine said that his new '11 Apex se came with a spare belt from Yamaha..I questioned this cuz my new machine had an empty belt holder on the clutch cover. I'm guessing his the dealer threw it in and its not OEM included. Is this the case ?
Any one else get 2 belts with their new machine ?

Full roller, depends on the dealer and how tight a deal you made. Mine I got spare plugs and belt with but the dealer I bought from was old school. Brothers new venture, he made a tight deal on it and did not get a spare belt. I just took one out of the good enough for spares pile and threw it in the holder.

Thunderbolt..that's weird that your machine doesn't have the holder - I have the same machine 2011 Apex SE and it has the 2 clips on the clutch cover for spare belt - Yammy should come good for proper cover w/clips for you as it should be there. Look on pg. 32 of the owners manual it has a pic of cover w/holder & description "V-Belt holder...keep a spare V-Belt for emergency use by pacing it in the v-belt holders provided"
To be honest I never rode with a spare - the other day my buddies and I got talking and they said I was taking a chance without a spare so I agreed and bought OEM belt at the dealer today for $80 large.... wish I would have checked the posts here first - Yamaha Plaza will be my new source for OEM.
BTW dealer said he has seen these belts go as far as 10,000km ! Wow.

While the OEM belts do last a long time they do cause more wear to the clutches sheaves. I get alot of sleds in with primary clutches that have grooves worn in them. The softer compound aftermarket belts are not as hard on the sheaves.
